As the game goes on.. the quests and plot takes longer and longer. The key your looking for isn't in the Monstary. You will find it sooner then latter. This is my tip, if you can't figuer it out...

I can relate to your unhappyness with your Ranger. It will seem that he isn't pulling his weight. While my Fighter with long bow gets 15 damage, my Ranger with double shot cross bow gets 8-10 8-10.....
