Well, I don't know if the Ranger is the best overall class...but I like the way he finds hidden treasure where no one else can see it. I think ever party needs a Ranger!

Hmm...if you were going to try the game with a single character, I'd say the best would be a Dwarven monk...
Dwarven +7 damage resist Monk's damage resist Max Pie/vit to get Iron Will and Iron Skin Not the best at dealing out damage, but he can take it like no body else. |

Rangers, no doubt in my mind. They constantly search, which ends up with your party finding a *ton* of extra items and in turn raising the id item skill for the whole party. Unlike other classes with critical strike, rangers don't have to toss even one point into it. They are 100% a ranged class too, so not one point ever has to be thrown into a melee skill. Scouting can use some points, but it goes up quickly on its own, so by level 5 you can start to toss those points into alchemy. Rangers will therefore be at 100% combat capacity even when you raise their magic skills. Once they hit 75 in ranged and bow (around level 12 or so) you can begin to concentrate fully on alchemy, making them the most powerful magic class of all of the hybrids.

There is no uber class in w8.
But if you search for a class with highest possible kill ratio: Fighter and Rogue always have the highest kill ratio in my parties. Fighter has always berserk option on and Rogue backstabs always anyway. You will find very good items for both classes. Especially a Rogue equipped with the early found bloodlust sword does massive damage. About the ranger discussion: X-Ray spell replaces scouting perfectly and is always successful.

Hmm, my mage has by far the most kills, followed by my gadeteer and fighter.

In general, it seems like they did an excellent job of balancing the classes, so no one completely dominates the game. I've heard well thought out arguments for almost every class as to why it was a particular favorite of someone. Of course, learning all the nuances of how to DEVELOP each class is going to take newbies like me awhile.

My rogue is doing an kickass job in tracking down hidden items.
As for the best class in game...hmmm i will have to wait and see what happens after i gain some extra level with my bisshop (the bisshop was way overpowerd in Wizardry 7 imo), other good classes: level an ninja up and see what happens ![]() |

In my party kills stack up at
Samurai 498 Fighter 396 Mage 298 Psionic 263 Priest 61 Bard 19 In the bards defence, she does heal for us constantly, and I got her when the others were around lvl 12 or 13 I also got the samurai abit after arnika but he soon took charge This is a pretty good party, I did have a rogue early on, which I kicked for a samurai, and I tried a ninja but decided on a bard later. |
