WHOA!!!! I was just going to post a new thread about this splendid movie!
On New Year's Eve, my boyfriend and I decided to stay in and rent some movies. We were at the counter to pay, when his eye suddenly fell on this movie. We read the blurb and thought it might be nice, even though we'd never heard of it before, so we decided to rent that one as well.

I can only advice you guys to RUN to the videoshop NOW and do the same

The scenery and landscapes are stunningly beautiful, the actors are VERY good, the plot is nerve-wrecking, very clever and well-written, the fighting scenes are amazing, and the way it is filmed is highly original and refreshing (slo-mo and stills, really cool-looking!). I loved it.

For those of you who (like me) never heard of this movie before, it's a French production (original title = Le Pacte Des Loups) spoken in French (our version had subtitles in Dutch, though the French was actually quite understandable). It's set in 18th century France, where a mysterious beast roams free in a remote area, killing men, women and children alike. The King sends a taxidermist/biologist/traveller ("Le Chevalier")and his Indian companion Mani to investigate. Some say the beast is an ordinary wolf, some fear it's unnatural, possibly a werewolf. Others imply the Beast is a punishment sent by God. As the Chevalier arrives and meets the local nobles and authorities as well as the countryfolk, the web of intrigue slooowly starts to unfurl, and carries the protagonists to a bloodcurdling denouement.

One of the best movies I've seen in ages!

Hmm never heard of that movie. But it seems like some thing I'd like... The trailer is playing on the TV yet or no?

There are two versions of the BotW? I watched the one that Melusine mentioned in the cinemas months ago. All I can say is... awesome... ...

Ours had English subtitles.

I just saw Brotherhood of the Wolf last night and I must say it was quite badass I didn't really know what to expect coming into the movie but it turned out it was well done, exciting, and intriguing--although a tad bit longish. It was refreshing to watch a movie that was so different from the cookie-cutter crap that Hollywood cranks out. There were a few minor details that I didn't quite understand even after the movie was over, but it's good to see a film where everything isn't just spelled out in big bold letters like the audience it a bunch of two year olds.

Here in Texas (in the Dallas-Fort Worth area) it is just playing. However it is only in like 4 theaters in the whole Metroplex. Is the movie that old, and is it by chance in video store here also? I have to drive quite a ways to see it. Also is the U.S. release in subtitles or dubbed? Im looking to go see it tomorrow. It did look really interesting.

The movie has been out for a while in Europe since it is a French film, but it's just now making its American debut. The dialogue is in French with subtitles in English. You should definately take advantage of the opportunity and go see it while its showing in Dallas. It's not showing anywhere in Austin--I got lucky and was able to go to a private screening put on by the UT film club.
