Help!

I am a level 3/2 half-elf fighter/mage, not that it makes much difference.

Got to Firewine Bridge the other night, got badly wounded by a party of "skelingtons" and needed to rest up to get some more healing spells back. I found that every time I needed to rest we were pounced upon by respawned enemies (usually low level nasties like kobolds and zombies which were easy to fire upon since they all used melee weapons). Every time! Even when I switched maps and went back to Gullykin - I got into the compound with everyone weary and down to about 3/4 HP each, and still when I rested I couldn't fend off the regenerations! At this point, I reluctantly called it a night; I have an auto-saved game but I was loath to save my party in such a point of weakness.

What I wanted to know is is this a bug or a fault with a random generator? It hasn't been like this at all since I've been playing the game, usually even in the middle of places like Ulcaster I can rest without much disturbance. It was rather disturbing and we were about a day's journey from Beregost.

I guess I've been playing too much so it needs a rest, but I am fearful of starting up again. I only really continued with my character Silke (she enjoyed hacking her namesake to pieces) because she killed Tarnesh with a lucky fluke, all my previous chas met their doom then. I don't want to have to start again, considering I've made it to chapter 3 without many problems en route.

This sounds v paranoid but I need some advice as to what to do if this happens again. Even when I reloaded from my save-game this happened, although admittedly I didn't quit back to Windows and reload the whole thing (the game crashes often enough as it is on my low-spec machine).

Cheers

"Silke"

I belive the attacks are a random factor in the game. There are times I have rested in places for the full 8 hrs and the next two times been attacked while resting. I have tried marching over the entire map of the area killing everything in sight and still have gotten attacked while resting. There may be certain safe resting areas on each map but other than an INN you are completely at the mercy of the game.
I usually march back to the nearest Inn and rest.

Well, if you rest near an area where you found monsters, there is a high probability that they will 'revive' and attack you. So if you want to rest outside, you should look for an area far from the places where you met monsters (and even here you won´t be safe at 100%).

Yeah, I realised that an inn would have been the best place, but Gullykin has nothing (someone suggested there was a nest of kobolds below the village, producing the "random" encounters) and marching back to B'gost, Nashkel or FAI would have taken far too long and got me out of kilter.

But anyway I solved the problem and I guess my computer was just acting up.

Also the there is a dungeon full of Kobold commandos (w/fire arrows) in Gullykin. It has two secret entrances. Try talking to the halflings in thier houses.

Your puter was not acting up. The game is not meant to be easy. If you sleep in ruins or a map such a gullykin where there are tons of kobolds, assasins, a few anhkegs etc, you sholdn't be expecting candy and flowers. The game would be very boring and rediculously easy if you could sleep and recover all he time... we adventurers must endure the hardships btw, once you ge to a higher level, this won't be an issue hehehe...
