Hey everyone, I've been reading the forums for awhile, but this will be my first post

I'm in the Underdark right now. I just recently went in and killed everything in the Beholder Lair. Now my first question is.. have I missed some items in there? I only found 2 or 3 "hidden" containers (they were part of the walls), but twice I would end up at a circular room at the end of a hall, I can remember one time was after killing a "special" beholder (I forget what it was called, it looked the same but kept casting maze or imprisonment), and once i got past him to the end I didn't find any hidden wall compartments. So I'm just getting a bad feeling that I missed something in there seeing as I had to defeat several mindflayers and beholders and didn't end up with much to show for it.

Secondly, I started doing the Drow missions and just saved Phaere from the Illithids, but I just found out that you can actually enter their Lair to the East. My questions for THIS are.. 1)Is there a quest that asks you to go in that lair or is it a side mission? 2)Is it worth going in there (what do you get)? I heard that the Illithid/Mindflayer Lair was really difficult and I'm not sure I want to go through all that stress if it's not worth it.

Thankyou for any answers!

1)I cant say how many secret places are there. Your best firend here is the Tab key (if you have the throne of bhaal expansion) which reveals containers. I remeber the only really worthy items being a sling and a greenstone amulet though I cant be sure if they were in this area or the beholder area in athkatla.
Make sure you keep the beholder eye. You will need it for quest later.

2)There are actually three areas: the beholder area, the mind flayer area and a third area the entrance to which is located on the western wall and might be difficult to spot. Later you will get a quest from the drow to enter either one of the three areas. Since you already finished the beholder area you wont have to enter either of the other too.
That said, I strongly suggest that just because you heard some area is difficult doesnt mean you should not try it out . It is highly advisable that you finish all three areas anyway since there are some really really good items in all. I personally found the mind flayer area very enjoyable .

The Mind Flayer lair is far and away the most difficult IMO...though it is also the most rewarding. You have to really give some thought at many junctures. Not only do you get some sweet XP, but you also get some items that can quite beneficial later on.

I just finished the beholder lair about 5 minutes ago, so I'm fresh on the topic . There are definately more than 3 hidden compartments. The only 1 of real value has over 5000 gold and some items. An elder orb will give you a special item and that's basically all you need from this lair. The beholder lair gives more xp than the other 2 by far I think, considering how each is worth 14,000 xp, each gauth is 9000 xp, and the hive mother is 50,000 XP. Eat up the xp
