Okie dokie.

Well, here it is: I'm feeling the urge to play a fighter/druid type.... and here comes the dilemma. Should I duel to a druid from a fighter, and if so, what kit (if any) is recommended, or, alternatively, should I be a fighter/druid.

Just FYI, I AM using The Darkest Day mod, so yeah, feel free to suggest fighter kits from it.

I like to use Jaheira in single player.... but this is for a multiplayer game so yeah, just thought I'd run it by IW BG2 nutters for thoughts/criticisms.

Ive got my weapons picked out and everything... just need to know the pros and cons for both scenarios.

Thanks for the help guys (and gals)

hmm, you might want to edit your self-description for the UK market - just a thought . . .

depends a bit on numbers in the party but:

power and ease = fighter/druid multi

reasonable power and added interest during the transition = dual to druid

kensai dual = better thaco but no armour eventually compensated by ironskins

berserker dual = no penalties for a front-liner - useful immunities

wizard slayer dual = nah

generic archer (tactis mod) dual = hmm, interesting thought - ranged character mainly though

some thoughts anyway

what are your weapon choices and character concept - might help people's thoughts

I was thinking the pitchwife mainly. I'm absolutely in love with that weapon. It's either that or stick with the Impaler.... but the club can be accessed much earlier in the game, hence it's appeal.

Thanks for your help armen... I'm now really considering a Berserker dual.

Egads!

Just reading through the manual I saw this following bit of information:

Character's NOT allowed Dual-Class status include Paladins, Rangers and Druids .

I'm going to have to look into this further... I was almost positive you could dual to a druid, but, meh, we shall see.

(I'm aware that the answer is probably common knowledge, but, I seriously have no definitive answer for myself.... so please humour me )

Edit: Hrmm... its amazing what the wonders of a quick click of the "search" button can do. Heh. Put in "dual druid" and it pulled up about 400 posts relating to druids and dualling. My bad.

There are times when the Manual is good, and that amounts to about 95% of the time. The Manual says lots of other interesting things, like how Bards can Climb Walls and Read Languages.

Druids can indeed Dual-class, and be Dual-classed to (but they can only be combined with Fighters, no matter what you do). Similarly, Rangers can be combined with Clerics.

Now, on to your REAL question:

Unlike Clerics and (especially) Mages, Druids get close to their maximum power level very early in ToB. Once they hit Level 15, they've gained about 75% of their maximum potential spellslots. Therefore, whereas Mages and Clerics are pretty much locked into being the class you Dual into, Druids can actually be the class you Dual from.

My personal evaluation of "best:" Totemic Druid->Fighter, Dualed around Level 17. You've got the best pure Druid kit for most of SoA, the only 3 (or so) Druid HLAs worth taking, Grandmastery, as many Warrior HLAs as a pure Fighter, casting spells in Full Plate, Warrior THAC0 & Saving Throws, all that good stuff. The only drawbacks are the crappy selection of Druid weapons and being a wimply low-level Fighter when it's time for Improved Irenicus.

i almost agree with that but i have to suggest avenger druid. i dualled to fighter from avenger at 15, and that was quite a rough character. i dont know if its just because i like casting chain lightning from plate, or if the chromatic orbs seem more useful than cure light wounds towards the end, but that really seemed about he best druid possibility to me.

I wouldnae call the druid weapon selection 'crappy'. It be limited, but you dinnae really need to use more than one or two weapons anyway. There are some very good spears. If you want to use a shield with a druid, you are limited to scimitars and clubs, which are the worst catered-for weapon types in the entire series (except for one scimitar, which a druid can't use anyway).

Unless I'm very much mistaken, if you dual class a druid you can put points in non druid weapons until the druid class becomes active again. So make sure not to put proficiency points into weapons which you won't be able to use once re-druidified.

Well, let's see. There's Spears, Staves, Scimitars, Clubs, Daggers, Darts, and Slings.

There are no worthwhile Spears (unless you count Halcyon & the Spear of the Unicorn) until Chapter 4.
The only good Staff in SoA comes late in Chapter 7.
There is one good Scimitar early on, yes, but its +2 enchantment means it can't hit the nasties, and is therefore only really suitable for the offhand.
There are two good Clubs early on, but being capped at +3 enchantment for the rest of the game kinda sucks.
The only Daggers worth mentioning are the returning Daggers, which are so cheesy I won't use them (well, actually, on a Druid I might).
Darts? WHAT Darts?
Slings, though....Slings rock.

The question is, are you playing a Druid or a Fighter/Druid? If the former, you might as well use a Spear, since there are practically no Bucklers in the game. If you have the latter, you'd be better off with a Club and a Sling, and a good strong Shield.

The weapon selection available to Druids isn't exactly rank, I admit....but when you compare it to what Clerics can use, hooooo boy!

Do you count a ranger/cleric as a fighter/druid type?

A ranger/cleric will get access to every divine spell, so the difference between a r/c and a d/f is the weapon restrictions. oh yeah, and you would only be able to do the ranger stronghold.
