I was at work today, washing tons and tons of dishes when I started to think of all my adventures in Baldur's Gate and all the friends I meet there, and how many of them turn up in BGII and BGII ToB.

Here is my list of people and where they ended up, please feel free to add:

Minsc, Jehira, Imoen, khalid, Dyandhyar: They traveled with you when you were captures. The last two died.

Edwin: Headed south from when you meet him near Nackashel and became part of the Sahdow Thiefs.

Viconia: Headed south as well, hiding among humans in Amn. Eventualy captured and burned at stake(or saved).

Tiax: This crazy gnome left Baldur's Gate and ended up in the asylum, captured by Cowled Wizards.

Ajantis: This noble paladin is found in the Windspears hills. It is a shame you cannot revive him somehow. Maybe a mod could have you resurect him and he could become your friend. I always liked this paladin.

Coran: I remember Coran in one of the three new maps that get opened up once you escape from the Underdark. I think a werewolf eats him.

Garrick: He is found outside the Order of the Most Radiant Heart trying to woo a girl.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I think i am missing one other guy. Don't you run into one of the dwarves from BGI in Amn?

IIRC, there's a list about all the NPCs by Jerr that you can meet in SoA, and their location and who they banter with.

Jerr's list is definately not complete.. and the question here is specifically about NPCs from BG1 (whom you don't necessarily meet in the game)

Here goes:

Faldorn: seized control of the druid grove.
Xzar and Montaron: get killed by Harpers (M while breaking into compound, X by an assasin later on)
Quayle: In the circus.
Safana: tries to kill you in one of the after-underdark forest area. Related to Coran and warewolves.

Also lets not forget:
Branwen and Xan: found in tutorial

you can also CLUA in Kivan. though he says nothing. Maybe he was initially supposed to be used somewhere but then was dropped.

EDIT: by the dwarves you mean Korgan? I mistook him for Kagain initially. But they are different.

Carbos and Shank (assassins back in CK) can be met fighting over a girl named Bubbles in the bridge district.

True, my list isn't complete, and won't mention Ajantis because you don't officially meet him.

When I get a chance, and the inclination, I'm starting a more organized list. Now if only people would IM me some named of NPCs they found...hint hint to anyone reading this (Any not on the list)

Which reminds me, I should find it...

If you have The Darkest Day mod, you can recruit Kivan, Kagain, and a few other BG1 NPCs.

Yeslick was the dwarf I was thinking of in my first post. Is he in SoA? I seem to remember him somewhere in it, but I may be thinking wrong.

@Jerr Conner:

I liked your post of all the npcs and where to find them. In my current game I'm going to try to hunt them all down and see what they say.

I think it's a shame that all the good NPCs from BG1 arent playeable in BG2. I always liked Safana and Corna, and they only appear in some crappy incident which you can safely miss and not notice. My other 2 favorite BG1 NPCs were Minsc and Imoen, who obviously DO make it to the sequal, though why they had to turn Imoen into a mage is beyond me. She was always the best thief in BG1, and with a shortage of good thieves in BG2, along with an abundance of mages... why change her ? Minsc is the only great NPC who survives intact to BG2

btw, what about that funny sad elf mage from the nashkel mines? We should probably also make a mention of Neb returning (and hopefully staying dead this time)
