Hi all, I've just started soloing an avenger and was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions for me.I know that they can only get to a max of lvl 14 in shadows of amn (don't have ToB yet) but does this make them significantly weaker than other classes or do they gain things to make up for it, i havent even left the promenade for the first time yet and i'm already lvl 12 any opinions or advice on the subject wud be much appreciated.
Cheers all

No they have some advantages and that should make up for it. Most classes are fair but it depends how you use them.

Welcome to IW Shaggy

I'm not that familiar with Druids though, how come your level 12 when you did't even left the Promenade?

The Exp. Cap can be removed via a Exp. Cap Remover, this will let you rise to level 50 if you feel like it.

As I said, I'm not that a Druid guy so you will have to talk with other Druid hippy's here on IW. About Tactics and advantage's they get.

Thanks for the welcome, its strange they seem to lvl up really quickly at first but since they can only reach lvl 14 i think there must be some monsterous gaps between lvls later on

On the plus side, you can get a shedload of bonus spells if you have a good wisdom.

You will also get useful summons spells at quite a low level (i.e. summon fire elemental), which should see you through quite a lot of the game.

Nature's beauty is all you need ,.. plus the Swordspider-form is very nice against mages and smaller opponents. His attacks are poisonous and *fast*.

Also, use the firesalamander-form to spit fire at your opponent .. aside from the spitting that form is useless though. I'd say the fire spitting and the Spider form are the only forms truly helpfull.

And yes, th gap from lvl 14 to 15 is huge

Fire-elementals ( lvl 6 spell ) are incredible btw

If you don't have ToB installed, stay the hell away from Druids. Take a look at this, and examine the Druid table. See that huge jump at Level 15? And do you also see that without ToB or an EXP cap remover, you can never reach Level 15? Arrrgh.

Given the SoA EXP cap of 2,950,000 points, you will have the following spellslots:
Cleric: 9, 9, 9, 9, 8, 6, 2
Druid: 6, 6, 6, 5, 3, 2, 1

I happen to think that Nature's Beauty is an incredibly bugged and cheesy spell, but then again, you're soloing--Use It!

First of all... welcome to Ironworks Forums, Shaggy!

Second, i would like to chime the discussion with an opinion (not too late, hopefully)... forgo your Avenger! The best soloing-suited Druid kit is the Totemic Druid.

Anyone who soloed the game with a magic user knows how valuable summons are - and the Totemic Druid's summoning rocks. Really.

First, the Spirit Animals. One of them can take out the entire Irenicus Dungeon. They are all immune to non-magic weapons, which makes the early game a cakewalk. Their stats are: Base AC 2 to AC -1, 45 to 96 HP, Base THAC0 8-10. STR 16-19, DEX 14-20, 2 to 3 attacks. Immunity to panic, poison, sleep, petrification, confusion, charm, hold, stun, slaying, and they use special attacks (poison, cold, etc). Not bad, i'd say.

The Spirit Animals will get you through the early game and will allow you to gather a decent amount of XP. Once you can summon Nymphs, you're on the roll.
The Nymphs (from the Call Woodland Beings spell) are especially deadly against groups of humanoids, who tend to be vulnerable to Confuse and Charm attacks.

You're level 11 already? The game should just give up now.
Fire Elementals are all you need. They're really awesome. A Fire Elemental, 2 Nymphs and 2 Spirit Animals with a little buffing is a force to be reckoned! They last long, too.

These three summoning spells will be your cannon fodder. But are you going to let them have all the fun?! Hell no!
Meanwhile, your Totemic Druid hangs in the back, emptying his arsenal upon the enemy and resummons if needed.
You fight outdoors? Call Lightning can wreak havoc in enemy lines.
Mages pestering you? Counter them with your hoardes of bugs (aka Insect Plague).
The fight seems lost? No way to beat the bugger? Oh well...

Toti : Casts Nature's Beauty - Bugger.

Voila! End of battle.
Nature's Beauty is your last resort spell. Most people don't even bother to give it a second look... *sigh*. Note the *no save*, *permanent* Blindness.
A Blind creature is a dead creature. The Insta-Dying part is just gravy.
It's really one of the best spells in the game.

Your weapon of choice should be the Fire Tooth +3 throwing Dagger. It deals decent damage, and Fire damage is always good.
Oh, and that may sound surprising, but don't bother to memorize more than one Ironskins. If you're caught in melee, you're doing something wrong.

As for the level gap... get ToB. You won't regret it.

Welcome to IW Shaggy!
Where's Scooby and the rest of the gang?

Anyway, as prev. stated, PC druids without ToB or Exp Cap Remover is a total waste. you will not reach lvl 15.. and your allready lvl 12 witout leaving the promenade. Try something else.. if you want some good solo chars, some good suggestions are:
 • Sorcerer
 • Kensai ---> Mage
 • Cavalier
 • Monk
 • Fighter/thief
 • Swashbuckler
Those are some of the most popular choices, sorcerer being the most popular, but you can choose others if none of those fit you well.
I hope your stay here at IW goes well. You might want to head over to general discussion and ask /)eathkiller to make you a nice signature. He is our sig master here
