anwayz, im a veteran to SoA and ToB, i have soloed many times with characters such as: a cavalier, a sorceror, a skald, a monk and an archer, but not yet with druids. An equipment list would be great as well as maybe a few nice spell combos stats, kit, and just some general tips and info.
Thanx guyz!!

Hi there, I am halfway through BG2 with my Druid, and it's not a bad character to play. I started her in BG as a fighter, dual classed at level 5 to Druid, and then took her all the way to BG2.
Minor Item Spoilers below > > > > > > > > Good weapons. I would put as many weapon points into staves and 2 handed fighting style (don't even bother with slings) as there are just so many good staves out there. As a druid you will get the Staff of Thunder and Lightning (+2) with your stronghold quests early on, plus there is a clerics staff (+3) which is easy to find, and the Staff of Rynn (+4) is a must as soon as you can afford it. Later (ToB only I think) you can get the Staff of the Ram (Thaco +4/ dmg +10) which is unbeatable. Otherwise there are the staff of earth, staff of fire and rod of smiting which are all useful to have on odd occasions and the staff of the woodlands+4, (which I think should have been a Druid stronghold quest reward as it turns up too late in the game to be much use) If you fancy a 1 handed weapon, there are a few good clubs out there (you get 1 from the stronghold again) but I think the best is the one you can buy in Trademeet ~ Blackblood+3 +3 acid I think, as this is useful for finishing off trolls. Or buy the staff mace as this allows you to use the odd shield if you are dual/multiclass (I found the shield of Balduran very handy later in the game ![]() Various fancy Spears, Scimitars and Daggers are also available, although none really sprang to mind as a must have weapon for me, most only being average +2 types. Spells As for spells, chaotic commands. Ironskins and Negative Plain Protection are always useful, plus summon insects, insect plague and creeping doom are great offensive spells against any spellcasters. Call lightning is very effective outdoors but can't be used indoors (or in the tree of life at the end, which is odd???) Summons. If you have the Weimar mod, then the Greater Werebears of cheese are fun to watch for a while, but most other summons are mainly useful as distractions or to soak up the worst spells the really heavy guys chuck at you. Have fun. |

I soloed one for a while,..
And I must say, the Avenger-kit is the only kit there is, that'll make Irenicus' dungeon ( not the improved one) fun to do. The avenger's ability to shapeshoft into a sword spider with a poisonous attack is incredibly fun. See those pesky kobolds ( or whatever they are) run away, while the poison's eating them alive. Lvling up,.. the abilities ( such as gaining the ability to transform into a greater Fire elemental ), even the special abilities only avengers obtain, are pretty much useless .. but the penalties you suffer from being an Avenger ( -1 for some stats) are negligable. Those stats ( I believe str. and con. ) dont matter. Str. is good at 17 or lower 'cause of belts later on,.. con. higher than 16 only matters for fighters, so a max. of 17 doesnt matter. As High Level Abilities are concerned, 'Fire Elemental Transformation' is just about the best one going. It does more varied damage than the Earth Elemental, and if you run out of healing spells, use one of them, it heals you when you change back.
As spells are concerned, 'Creeping Doom' is great! 100% Miscast Magic and the bundle-load of damage it deals out. YEAH! Also, the simple Level 1 spell 'Armour of Faith' as when you are a high level it can give you 25% Damage Resistance, to ALL forms of Damage. I was thinking of making a Mage Spell like that. If any other advice is needed, PM me or post here. ![]() DJG |

In my opinion, the best soloing-suited Druid kit is the Totemic Druid.
Anyone who soloed the game with a magic user knows how valuable summons are. Druid summoning rocks. Really. First, the Spirit Animals. One of them can take out the entire Irenicus Dungeon. They are all immune to non-magic weapons, which makes the early game a cakewalk. Their stats are: Base AC 2 to AC -1, 45 to 96 HP, Base THAC0 8-10. STR 16-19, DEX 14-20, 2 to 3 attacks. Immunity to panic, poison, sleep, petrification, confusion, charm, hold, stun, slaying, and they use special attacks (poison, cold, etc). Not bad, i'd say. ![]() The Spirit Animals will get you through the early game and will allow you to gather a decent amount of XP. Once you can summon Nymphs, you're on the roll. The Nymphs (from the Call Woodland Beings spell) are especially deadly against groups of humanoids, who tend to be vulnerable to Confuse and Charm attacks. You're level 11 already? The game should just give up now. ![]() Fire Elementals are all you need. The are awesome. A Fire Elemental, 2 Nymphs and 2 Spirit Animals with a little buffing is a force to be reckoned! These three summoning spells will be your cannon fodder. But are you going to let them have all the fun?! Heck no! Meanwhile, your Totemic Druid hangs in the back, emptying his arsenal upon the enemy and resummon if needed. You fight outdoors? Call Lightning can wreak havoc in enemy lines. Mages pestering you? Counter them with your hoardes of bugs, aka Insect Plague. The fight seems lost? No way to beat the bugger? Oh well... Toti : Casts Nature's Beauty - Bugger. Puf! End of battle. ![]() Nature's Beauty is your last resort spell. Most people don't even bother to give it a second look... *sigh*. Note the *no save*, *permanent* Blindness. A Blind creature is a dead creature. The Insta-Dying part is only gravy. It's really one of the best spells in the game. Your weapon of choice should be, IMO, the Fire Tooth +3 throwing Dagger. It deals decent damage, and Fire damage is always good. Oh, and that may sound surprising, but don't bother to memorize more than one Ironskins. If you're caught in melee, you're doing something wrong. ![]() Cheers. [ 12-19-2002, 03:00 PM: Message edited by: Alson ] |
