Joke: Four men are sitting around in a bar, talking about languages, and the first, an Englishman, says, "You must admit, English is the most beautiful language. Take the word 'butterfly', for example. The combinations of the cheery yellow color of the name, the juxtaposition of the terms for butter and flight, the inversion of 'flutterby.' Yes, a beautiful word."
The Frechman snorted. "French is by far the most beautiful language. The French word for butterfly is 'Papillon'. Mark the word, how the sound dips and rises like the flight of the insect. Far prettier than 'butterfly.'
The Italian demurs, "No, if you can say that about 'papillion,' what do you say about 'mariposa'?? It swoops and swings, as well as dipping and rising. No, Italian is the most beautiful language."
Finally, all eyes rest on the German, and he turns brick red, takes a gulp of beer, and snarl, "Well, what is wrong with Schmetterling?
Melusine, we are ready for nitpicking.

Yes, and Sturm und Drang, Weltschmertz, and Wehrmacht. But, that is the point. German is a language rich in philosophical and powerful words, many of which have been incorporated into English, but the euphony of the Romance languages is much greater and more graceful. More beautiful languages exist than them, though, notably Welsh and Finnish, which were the inspiration for J.R.R. Tolkein's Elvish tongues.

I've heard Jay Leno speak German once, or at least that's what he tried. All that came out of him was "asengraben". I wonder what that means.

And before you call any of the Scandinavian languages beatiful.. I suggest you ought to listen to some native person speak it first
Edit note: Funny joke man!
