Languages....

With all the discussions on the GD board about languages as of late, I am curious to know what languages all of you speak/read.

I am a native English speaker who studied Spanish in high school but doesn't remember a lot of it. I can read and speak biblical Hebrew, which isn't too useful to me unless I'm translating texts for research/school or in a synagogue! (dead language and all...)

I speak English. I took Spanish in high school and a little in college, but I don't remember much of it. Except for "Donde esta el bano," or "Where's the bathroom?" (I figured that that would be the most important thing to know if I ever went to Mexico).
I 'speak' some sign language (I had a job that required me to work with deaf children). Although, since I quit that job, I'm losing a lot of what I had learned.
I think that it's sad that in America we don't introduce foreign languages at the kindergarden/elementary school level. Taking two years of a foreign language in high school is completely pointless, unless you keep up with it. We should take a cue from the Europeans; it's so much easier to pick up a language if you begin when you're young.

I speak czech, read and "write" english and remember some words from german and russian.

Dutch, English and German. Had some french, ancient greek and latin in high school, but I'm not able to speak them, only to read them. Ah well...

I am from Russia and russian is my native language. I know english pretty good. I have to know it well since I moved to US. I know some french too. When I was 9 years old I studied German, but now I have forgotten most of it.

I am a native English speaker.
I took French in H.S. but probably don't remember enough to carry on a conversation. I should have taken Spanish since I moved to the southwest LOL.
I do know some Spanish but it is old Spanish, not Mexican Spanish or TexMex so I get the rolling of the eyes

from locals for speaking so proper.

I also know a few (very few) Chinese and Korean words as well as some songs in Japenese that my grandmother taught me when I was very young. I just sung one to Rex a couple of days ago while we were watching Mission Impossible 2.
Whatever that song is that is playing while Tom Cruise is climbing the big rock...I know the words in Japenese LOL!

I speak English but have taken spanish for two years. You're right Laurel two years isn't nearly enough, as I've forgotten most of it now anyway. I could take Spanish 3 next year, but I know I won't.
