Thanks for the input guys. Sorry it took so long for me to respond but this website is getting difficult for me to log on to. Anyway, I'm only 5th level and I guess having 60,000 drakes would unbalance the game for me. I was just wondering how you could sell something like this. I'm missing sooo much of the game by not following magic much. I'm not creating spells, enchanting items, and probably won't have much use for soul gems. I don't even know what their used for. My character now is a custom Paladin that's basically using his sword to handle creatures. I am somewhat skilled in Restoration. I'm going to join house Redoran after milking the Imperial Legion of all available quests. Yes, my character is an Imperial. I will hold on to the gem though, just in case I need it. Maybe I'll dabble in enchanting a longsword. Any advice?

Merchants have no money for multiple reasons, but the main purpose for their lack of money is because you can buy levels, skills, and high attributes.
Raising the selling power of a merchant to 100k will unbalance the system greatly. Money allows you to train your stats, which in turn allows you to level continuously without doing anything. It's also very easy to get high attribute multipliers this way. Enchanting powerful items using money you shouldn't be able to have 5 minutes into the game is another balance issue. With 60k and that grand soul gem, you can make an item that could kill golden saints and dremora lords.

If you are combat oriented character, after level 25+ things are going to get quite easy. I am currently at level 59, half of my stats are at 100 where as the others are in the 70s and 80s. I cleaned out the Dagon Ur's lair without even using a single potion of healing. Actually, to be honest I haven't been using any potions since level 23.
IMHO, enchant skill is one of the most useful skill in the game. ![]()

You can also sell it to the drunken mudcrab, on an island east of vivec. On the east side of some ruins (the ruins gets marked on your map, depending on which quest you do) This mudcrab have a disposal at 10.000 gold.
Also paladin2000 had some good advice. Take advantage of the buying/selling items of lesser value to make up to the 60k. For example you sell 12 items worth 5.000 over 12 days, if you sell it to the creeper. 6 days if you sell it to the mudcrab of course (the merchants disposal gets restocked after 24 hours) After you have sold of this small value items, you sell the grandsoul gem and make a tradeoff by buying back the 5.000 items you sold before. Note, that this works best if you sell it to Creeper or the drunken mudcrab since they buy/sell items at the items value.

You could also use those grand soul gems to...oh I don't know...actually...maybe...CREATE AN ENCHANTED ITEM...since that's what they exist for. I've been amazed at how much everyone's been talking about selling these soul gems and for how long the conversations have been going on and without much being said about their intended purpose. Why not make an Orcish battle axe that does 30-60 points of fire damage, or boots of levitation, "Bob's" amulet of total protection, instant death, invisibility or some other equally desirable item using your own enchant skill?
Who needs 50k gold pieces anyway? What are you going to buy with that much gold? Show me a merchant that has anything you actually want to pay for that you can't find floating around somewhere in the rest of the world. True, the merchants should have enough money to buy some of the more expensive items in the game that we all seem to collect, however with a little imagination you should be able to overcome this problem without editing the game. I've found a way to sell almost every expensive item I've found. As previously stated, you can barter for the rest of the merchants' high priced stock and then piece all of that off to other merchants. Soul gems are different. They serve a purpose. A 50k or 60k grand soul gem can create one heck of a powerful magical device, the specifics of which are limited only by your own imagination and patience...but the number of existing grand soul gems seem to be limited with one "Azura" exception. Think about that next time you sell one off...how are you going to buy it back(provided you don't whack the merchant) when you find yourself wanting to make some god-like magical device that bears your own name? Nanobyte, I too apologize for my seeming belligerence. Being the new kid here, I should tread more lightly I suppose. I appreciate your (and the other's) view on the $mod, although it differs from my own.
I've had MW for about a month. Coming from topend EQ, I enjoy what it is, and more importantly what it is not. I play almost daily, for a couple hours up to several. My being an accomplished thief (aside from archer/swordsman/conjurer/blades-operative/freelancer), I grew frustrated with the accumultion of loot stacked away while not being able to turn it into usable cash. Thus I opted for the $mod versus trading/waiting for seemingly days on end. I really don't see my trespass here. It's a different means to the same end. Has it ruined my game? Doesn't feel like it. True enough that I am stronger, and dealing with mobs I encounter is a bit less challenging as it stands, but then I've yet to leave the west/south coasts of the isle. In no hurry at all, enjoying the ride, hopefully it will last. Am a bit disappointed however that there are seemingly more run/talk/report quests versus just good 'ol crawling/fighting...so far anyways. I've spent most of the money so far (save about 5k) on enchantments...and some light training. An openlock/100 amulet, paralyze daedric LS, a levitation ring. Still the game offers lots of challenge in figuring out quests and exploring and staying alive in general. Stuck trying to find a murderer in Vivec right now...no clue. I am enjoying it. At level 18 I've trapped some dremora lords, even got one Gold Saint, tho I believe that was more a fluke of pathing AI and my bowmanship...rangers own! Hmmm, so should I now unplug that official arrow merchant mod? ~ As far as the 'realistic' stance, I will not attempt a counter here at length as this is totally dependant on personal interpretation of an imaginary world. As is the whole of MW. As it should be. You say pah-tah-toe, I say tater. ~ *forgive the edit, loathe syntax errors... [ 06-30-2002, 11:32 AM: Message edited by: -ArchAngel ]

For starters, it provokes travel and a search. Finding aspects of the world you won't if you cheat. So as far as answering the statement "Has it ruined my game? Doesn't feel like it." How would you know? You've bypassed the alternative. |
