Hi. How do you sell the 60,000 soul gem in the Balmora Mage Guild? I found the monster in Caldera but he only has 5,000. What can I do with the 60,000 gem? Thanks.

Nanobyte 06-26-2002 11:47 PM

i don't think you can. of course, i haven't gotten very far into the game (well, i did make the trip from vivec to the sheog. islands on foot).. but really, i have an extra glass cuirass worth almost double that (i think) and haven't found a suitable trader..

Use it for Enchantment.

Yes, you can sell you 60,000 Grand Soul Gem but make sure that you did not steal any soul gem from the mage guild before. There are ways to dispose of this gem and one of it is:

Get plenty of minor soul gems and trap the soul of disease rats. Each minor soul gem will be worth 800 septims. Sell it one by one until the enchanter mage have about 100 of them. This will take a loooooooong time.

Then trade in your 60,000 Grand Soul Gem for 40-60 pieces of the minor soul gems (disease rat). Then sell the minor soul gems back by stages. Again, this takes a loooooong time and you will notice that you will end up with less than 60k septims because you can't buy/sell at cost.

Save yourself the headache.
Grab the mod that gives Creeper 100k to barter with.
I use this one no probs.

it's amazing how quick people turn to cheating. i, myself, cannot, as i am limited to the xbox version. if you think about it, though, perhaps there is a reason why the developers made it so you cannot sell those 'uber' items. for one, you could get rich really early in the game, and that would reduce the value of it. secondly, if you cannot buy that awesome armor it makes you want to go looking for it (maybe a dwemer ruin or daedra shrine). i just hope you decide against this recommendation, as it only spoils the game for you.

Hmmm... I'll pretend you didn't just call me a cheater.

Modifying a merchant to have a more realistic means of buying items that otherwise would take a huge loss, when the same thing is accomplished by trading/waiting with him, isn't cheating in my book.
But since you play on a console, perhaps it's a case of 'fox & grapes'.

My game has been by no means spoiled. Thanks for your pompous input.

IMHO I am not sure how making a merchant have 100k is realistic. The economy of any medevial time period was primarily bartering. You could always trade any big ticket item for other items. I personally find it refreshing that you cannot sell the big ticket items easily. It makes the game much more interesting. However that said everybody has there own likes and dislikes. If using this mod makes the game more fun for you, then I say go for it. Different strokes for different folks as the say.

Hey, take it easy, guys. How we want to play our game is entirely up to us. After all, the TES construction set (PC version) has a purpose -- which is to give the player the freedom to play the game however he/she see fit.

Honestly I prefer not to tweak the game by giving any particular merchant too much gold but I don't have a lot of time to spend on the game, therefore I did (and still) use my own plug-in to bump the Creeper's gold to 50,000 per 24 hours.

This is no means cheating because I have already sold tons of item to him/it before and I could use the same old buy more cheap stuff to trade in for my hyper expensive toys but it is just a matter of buy/sleep/sell cycle. I rather spend the time to spend on explorations and quests.

sorry if i was offensive, i was just trying to help a fellow gamer enjoy the full value of this game..

Hi Xerin, I sold the 60,000 soul gem quite early in my career. I needed gold badly and traded it off for a lot of magic junk + a good deal of gold.
But later I came to regret it. You can use the gem to as part of building your castle (at least in House Telvanni), and if you want to make magial items later, you will want to save it. soul gems are somewhat hard to come by.
Of course if you see it to some remote showkeeper you can kill him later if you change your mind, hehe
