thats why BGT is so great! cause you get the improved movement rate etc. that you get in bg2 and so bg1 becomes so much better!

So you're saying that BGII doesn't require thought to roleplay? Think again. [ 10-23-2003, 11:22 AM: Message edited by: Zuvio ]

BG 1 was sweet...all that to explore...but there was not alot to do on many maps so much was only a walk in the forest!!! wow and a good story too...i liked the atmosphere and all that too, your charachter had a certain sweet innocence about it. i actually liked the charachter models better in BG 1.
bg 2 is more excotic and all and is not very bad, though the charachter avatars are annoying. i like it very much because you are not in godly fights all the time and there is an indepth story behind, ToB is much too alike with IWD and i dont like all that fighting with so little roleplaying.

I think BG2 has more fighting than story, BG1 has more story than fighting.

The main thing I don't like about the BG series is the obvious character-building time. There's a stretch in BG1's chapter 3 and in BG2's chapter 2, 3, and/or 6 where the game pretty much says "hey stupid! Time to earn experience and gold so you can proceed!" In my opinion, IWD and IWD2 don't have this downtime--death is always two steps away from a bad decision and experience and cash are always hard-won.
That being said, nothing can compare to the sheer awe I felt when emerging from Chateau Irenicus. A new world to explore, eye candy to goggle over at the Adventure Mart, and only a few wrong turns in a city nearly twice the size of Baldur's Gate. Reminds me of my first PnP D&D game where the half-dead party straggled into a Beregost-sized town, the first civilization they'd seen since leaving the game starting point, and so filled with joy that they started hugging random townsfolk.

I thought BG2 was much better. While I liked exploring all the maps in BG1, even though I did get tired of endless walks in the forest, I still like BG2 better.
The exploring bit: that made sense in BG1. Low level characters sort of walking around looking for a fight with goblinoids. By the time characters are Lvl 7, like in BG2, things are much more quest-driven. You are going to X to get something for a quest, and you just do it -- you don't stop and explore every cave along the way looking for a goblin. Or, you don't unless it relates to another quest you're working on. What I like better about BG2 is the further tactics complexities that come with increasing levels (for enemies and the party) and also the much more detailed NPC interactions. By the time I reached chapter 3 in BG2, I knew more about the characters I was travelling with than I ever did in BG1. Yes, you can become very powerful very quickly in BG2. But, if you keep 6 in the party, don't use the cloak of cheese and other over-powered items, then the game certainly remains challenging. I'll cite the thousands of "help me with X" threads on this forum as proof. |

Lot of the BG2 characteristics really help the gameplay in BG1/BGT. That said: I'm a red Dragon, I'm a red Dragon! That's all I ever wanted to be since I joined IWF. And the double candy is that I'm no longer Mr. Voodoo Egg ![]()

About BGT, I'd really like to play it, but I remember that the 2 or so threads that came out about it were both like, 80+ posts, so I didn't feel like reading them all. Where can I download it? And just to be sure, BGT has BG1+ ToTSC+BG2+ToB all in one, right?
