Just as in so many other cases, Stealth and Invisibility are your friends. Scout ahead. Know who your enemies are. See what they're wearing--take out the naked guys first. But before you charge into a tough fight, ALWAYS soften up the area by casting Web, Stinking Cloud, and some damaging spells like Fireball or Cloudkill. All of these spells should be targeted at a spot that is close to all of your opponents, but far enough away from them that your casters can fire the spells without being seen by the enemy.

Ok I just did it just now because Im running through my game again on trilogy. And I found it amazingly easy. I chucked in two fireballs which finished one of the guys and then prat came forward half dead and i finished him off and the next guy and then went and killed the guy with the arrows. EASY!!
BTW, have you done it yet?

Sounds like the tactic I prefer to use too. That might be the reason why I do not remember this fight as one of the tough ones.
Stealth and scouting, retrieve scout and place mages (usually got 2-3 full/partly mages) and start launching fire balls as many as I can, before the enemy is too close. One of my tanks has a ring of fire protection and the helmet of defense, so he is able to meet the enemy in the middle of the fire ball riot. When the fire ball shooting has ceased, my other tank is moving in to help his buddy. My mages is now using more precise artillery such as magic missiles, acid arrow and A's scorcher. During the whole battle I have a bowman firing arrows at the most dangerous looking magic user enemy, to prevent the magic user from casting spells. If there are more magic users - or the magic user is bery hard, I would make one of my mages using magic missiles on that enemy instead of casting fire balls.
