Default "Dungeon Craft Game Creator Group"

The core of Dungeon Craft is completed. Now, the Engine needs uncountable games to make Dungeon Craft rising!

My idea: we shoud found something like a "Dungeon Craft Game Creator Group". The members of this Group have nothing to do with the developing, there are only here to develope several DC-Games.

Question: Are there any dc-game-creators here who think this is a good idea? what think the developers?

ps: sorry for my bad english

I've been watching and waiting for some to answer first, as I'm not only a developer, I'm also one of the project administrators...

But, I can't wait any longer.

First off, welcome to Dungeon Craft, Melechesh! Nice to have you here.

I think this is a great idea. Creators could share ideas and tips. They could work on joint ventures. They could share resources, etc.

I think the more Dungeon Craft the better.

As a design creator for DC, you can bet that I'm interested.

To make more known we have to create more (good) games.

my plan to make this better:
we shoud create ONE game-project, on this project can work everyone who want to. this makes the work with Dungeon Craft more interesting and the goal is that some workers create own projects.

compare it with "Battle for Wesnoth", the main campaigns make the game very interesting. The continouing story consider the project alive! and everyone can work on the story!

Count me in. I was curious about something. When you make a project in DC how are the various parts of it stored? Like for example, if we were to start a joint collaborative DC project and say asked one fellow to produce a certain location in the game and another fellow to produce another location could these locations be parts of one map and be uploaded/downloaded in separate archives and then put together back into one project? I'm assuming DC doesnt work that way and that everything belonging to one map is stored in one file and cannot be broken up and reassembled. Except ofcourse for art which is a different story.

This is a correct assumption, unfortunately. Even if the locations are on different levels. FRUA at least allows you to trick the editor into accepting dropped in levels.

You can hack DC with varying degrees of success. The first thing I did with DC, even before my very first icon, was figure out how to hack the character files to change stats.

CocoaSpud was glad of my interest, but a bit unhappy that I hadn't just asked him to add the feature. So, I will suggest that you add a request to the feature tracker.

There are a few (at least one?) collaborations going on already... But an "umbrella" DC designers group does sound like a good idea

I would like to see anything you guys could cook up

Yes this is true. The one-file-organisation is not very comfortable. i think wee should create a "master"-file where all changes are in. all designers work with copies on the master-file and propose their changes.

my idea of the way to go:
1. Create Master-File
2. Propose Changes/new Items/new Art
3. Work the changes in the master-file
4. Propose Changes to the DC-Developers
4. Goto 2

It's not just one file. It's the global data file and then an additional file for each level, add on to that the items.dat, monsters.dat and spells.dat files.

In step 4 above (the first one ) what do you mean by propose changes to DC Developers? The changes to the master file? I would think that is this is to be a Users Group, you wouldn't need to include the developers at all.

If I may suggest, a workflow that might make sense for DC particular workflow could be something like:
A. Discuss ideas
B. Create Master File
C. Propose add-ons/changes
D. one person "checks out" (just like a library book) the Master File and makes their changes.
E. the person uploads Master File 2 and any additional files as applicable
F. group examines changes/additions and if accaptable-
G. goto step C

I think it would be beneficial that each time a Master File is re-uploaded it be given a new number, so in case there are are errors/bugs, you have the last good version to fall back on.
Also, by Master File, I mean all of the game files that have changes as well as any new files. Because of this, it would be better to create a new directory fore each new "Master File".

Just some ideas for you to do with as you want.
