I have always had this trouble between Windows Media and Quicktime. I prefer WMP, but sometimes I have to view things in Quicktime, so I do so. That sometimes causes Quicktime to become the default on everything, and so I mess around and try to make WMP my default again which causes something in QT to get damaged. Now...I am trying to view a video on Google Video that our professor wants us to see, but Quicktime is wanting to play it, yet it will not start. However, WMP is my defaulted player, yet QT somehow is stealing the show.

HOW THE HECK DO I JUGGLE THREE PLAYERS AND THEY BEHAVE AS I NEED THEM TO???

AHHHH!!!!!

Alright, want my suggestion? First thing you do is uninstall QuickTime, completely. Most places will allow you to use WMP as an alternative, and if you can download the video, then the VLC player can play .mov files(It may also be possible to get it to play files embedded in sites if you can get the URL of the video, but I haven't tried it myself, so I would not know.).

Also, I'm only seeing WMP and QT, how is that three players? Either I need glasses or... I don't know.

I failed to mention Real Player as the third and newest addition to this madness in my PC.

Also...I really love the quality that QT delivers on visual when I am viewing movie trailers from their website, and in letterbox format. I have not seen that quality in any other player that I have tried and I only keep QT around these days just for that. Even QTalt was not as clear. I just don't know what to do anymore. I wish there was ONE player that would give me everything I wanted and liked. Hey...QT has a paid version, would that solve my problem? Would paying for the player actually erase all this junk of having to juggle three players and avoid having to worry about which one wants to be default?

I only use two media players.

Media Player Classic by default( with the CCCP Codec-pack),
VLC for anything else.

Cheers.

Totem with ahem *codecs* from...where Johnny sails. That's all I need for ANYTHING. But I do like gXine, and the plug-ins that are available for it.

On the spousal units Dell, all of your three are installed Larry. All are installed with ALL options, and ALL auto affiliations set to MANUAL/OFF. That way she can choose which player to play the format, which is pretty self explanatory.

You can however, go into your ~Control Panel~Folder Options~File Associations~ and in so much change them to whatever you want to play that file type. This will save you excessive corruption in your registry by uninstall-install again theories.
