Math 670 (90% of those tested)
Verbal 500 (47% of those tested) Total comes out to be 1170, which is 30 short of my goal. I'll try again at the beginning of next year before sending my scores off and applying for college. I'm just glad I didn't drop the bomb on the verbal |

Yea, that was the first time. It should be pretty obvious I'm a math/science major, seeing as how I was 130 short of a perfect score.

Good job, Nano. Did you take a course or use some practice books? There are great synonymn/ antonymna books out there. You probably got smacked with poor reading comprehension - I did on mine when I was that age. Funny, I was a science guy then, too, and ended up an English major and a lawyer.
Anyway, bone up before next time. There are some great software programs to help with this stuff. We bought my sister-in-law the Kaplan one and helped her immensely. Knowing what they are looking for is just as important as knowing the subject matter they are testing. Get some aid like this to help you with the inside info. Knowing how to take the test is at least as advantageous as knowing your math and english. |

Anyway, well done Nano, that's a fine score. I'll be surprised if any colleges of your choice aren't happy with that. Certainly no harm in trying again though, SATs are quite important and will help you a lot with regards to getting into college, especially if you have some decent grades from school to go with it. I did reasonably on my SATs, I got a 1200 with a 640 on the verbal, and a 560 on the math. It was more than enough to get into the college I wanted, so your score shouldn't pose any problems either. Good luck for next time

sat scores are soo overrated
i really dont see why people make such a big fuss over them i mean 90% of the test that i took a middleschool student would be able to answer given enough time. i think most people dont do so well on them because of test anxiety rather than because of not knowing the material. but anyhow, i got a combined score of 1290. i didnt study, i didnt worry, and i actualy had diahrea during the testing (which really sucked holding it in!) course ive always been a halfway decent test taker unlike my sister who studies for days on end and ends up going bonkers and failing or doing poorly (shes actually smarter than i am; usualy gets A's in most of her classes - im a B's student) |

How do they test you in SAT? do they give you several essays to complete within 2 hours like A-Level?

There are two 'flavors' of SATs.
The first (SAT I) is all multiple choice, it tests math and English skills. The English questions tend to stress 'critical reading' and the math questions tend to stress 'data interpretation and applied math'. The second (SAT II) are topic specific. I personally took the Math IC (IC meaning first level w/ a calculator) the Chemistry, and the History ones so I'm not very familiar with the English ones. From what I've been told, the SAT II in Writing does have an essay. IIRC the essay makes up about 1/3 of the total test time. From what I know about how the A-level tests work (which isn't much) the SAT II tests would be the closer match of the two. [ 05-04-2003, 04:36 AM: Message edited by: Seraph ] |

nr.1 cause of students failing Exams is stress nr.2 is not practicing enough nr.3 is not learning enough So basically keeping relaxed and knowing how they ask the question/question type seems more important than the actual facts. Did you know that your brain stores the information you read infinetly ? It is there, but we cant always acces it. You have these people who divide information into visual "chambers" in their brain, helps remembering. For me, I tend to stress alot during math. It's really weird, I'm always the one explaining stuff to the others, but once I have to do it under pressure I forget reading details, formulas etc. Doesnt happen with any of the other courses ![]() Newayz, took a prescribed drug that lowers heartbeat and made a test-exam,.. a whopping 4 points higher than the test-exam I made without the stress-lowerer. ( 4 points higher on a scale of 1-10 by the way,.. so quite significant ) [ 05-04-2003, 05:46 AM: Message edited by: daan ]
