My take: Ah, well, even though it is their part of the world, this is probably a symbolic ploy to appease the public disapproval of the war in the region.

CAIRO, Egypt (CNN) -- The Arab League is considering a draft resolution on the war in Iraq and has offered solid support to the Iraqi people. The league, meeting in Cairo, is calling for an urgent U.N. Security Council session. The consensus evolving from the meeting indicates strong support for the Iraqi people and their current situation. Amr Moussa, the league's secretary general, said: "I salute the Iraqis and wish them victory." the meeting say the war is an example of renewed Western imperialism. They say the war is part of a long-term plan is to change the Middle East map and remove national leaders such as Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat. Libyan Foreign Minister Mohammed Abderrahmane Chalgam condemned the "aggression" and said: "We must lift our heads and greet the bravery of the Iraqi people." Hamood said the ministers are putting together a resolution with several essential demands. Among the points being considered for the resolution: • Condeming the war on Iraq. • Refusing to legitimize the war. • Opposing what ministers call the drift of the United Nations away from its charter as an international body whose responsibility is to keep peace and stability in the world. • Opposing any U.N. partnership or meddling in Iraq's internal affairs. • Respecting the unity and sovereignty of Iraq and its rights to its natural wealth and resources. • Resuming the U.N. inspections in Iraq. • Respecting the sovereignty of Iraq's neighbors.

Arab league foreign ministers condemn invasion of Iraq Arab foreign ministers meeting in Cairo Monday called for the "immediate withdrawal" of US and British forces from Iraq and condemned the invasion as an "aggression". The resolution was adopted unanimously, except for Kuwait, Arab League Secretary General Amr Mussa said. Well all the Arab summits I've seen never had anything friendly to say to the US since 1945.

It's basically a meeting to blame Israel and US for all the problems in the region.

Like whatever. They share the same frustration that the US and Israel have to deal with on a daily basis.

It seems amazing to me that you guys over the water are horrified that Iraq are actually trying to defend themselves and that other countries support them.
The US does not have the monopoly on the only correct position to take in world affairs. Just because the US says or believes or does something, it doesn't necessarily make it so or right.

I won't go into the "what gives you the right " speech, but I'm sure you know where I'm coming from.

Talk about hypocrisy - several members (other than Kuwait which as the only member didn't support the resolution) help US to wage the war - f.x. is the military HQ in Qatar
