it depends. Paladins get +2 to their saving throws, so that's a definite bonus. mages also get decent saving throws, but the death and breath are kinda high. thieves get ok throws too, but have a remarkably bad breath throw. but you should be wearing enough Gaxx/Magi/RoP+2/Human Flesh to negate all of them. once you get to ToB, all the saving throws end up being about 4 or 5.

Single class? Prolly a paladin b/c of the save bonus, although mages are still better off against any form of magic except death spells.
For multiclass, either a fighter/wizard, or cleric wizard, 'cos w/ multiclass you take the best save of the two |

Probably the best class is the Paladin. The best sub-class is the Cavalier.

my mistake, monks only get a +2 bonus to save vs. spells. decent, althought paladins are better. i must have been thinking magic resistance instead of saves.
