Seeing as it's now in the bargain bin and being completely in my price range I was wondering if it is any good at all. I've played the following games and enjoyed them, so I am asking if you think I might enjoy it as well. I know it got ALOT of mixed reviews, with nothing being stellar and some great uninstall bugs, but have any of you played a patched up version of it?

-Diablo II: Enjoy it now and then, it's nothing I spend a ton of time with - once ya get to nightmare, the fun just kinda seeps out
-Baldur's Gate: This game was so slow I never could even get to where Jaheira was at.
-Baldur's Gate II: Great game, liked it alot. Definately one of the better memories of crpg's
-Icewind Dale: It was ok, I had to push myself to get through it(really was interested in #2, but wanted to complete the first one). Not a great game, but merely better than okay.
-Icewind Dale 2: I thought #1 was a pain to get through, I've given up so many times on this game. After having the city go complete whack at the end of the "undead targos" mod, I lost all interest. Something about spending 10+ hrs blowing away skeletons and such only to have the mayor pummel your head in just kinda makes me feel... ugh...
-Planescape Torment: Never could get into this game too much, just didn't care for the style, personally.
-Morrowind: Cool game, just not being party based, it feels kind of limted, I play it off and on. Game world is great, but getting lost is blarg.

This is an incredibly unbalanced game, and you are even able to find an axe +3 at your 2nd dungeon. It is turn-based, and moving takes forever. Imagine having each skeleton take 10 seconds to walk to a square. You are usually face twelve of them at a time. The first dungeons were amazingly hard, and I just became so enraged I just threw the game away.

Thats how much I liked it.

its really not good.. there was actually a forum of that before here in IW. unfortunately, it was so bad..

some people did say it was good storyline ONCE youve gotten out of the very boring 1rst stage dungeon. it gets better.. so they say. but i never was able to get out of the 1rst stage because of sheer boredom

oh yeah. it's pretty bad. even patched, it's bad. a game's gotta be really bad to get me to give up after the first 10 hours.
besides the game play, the tilesets are completely uninspired. nuthin' quite like trudging around a dungeon where everything looks the same. and a really boooooring sameness too. bleh! and finding an exit is a major pain in the rear.
then there's the interface. the radial menu used for choices is not very intuitive at all. and it's small. and if you mess up, you go back thru all the choices to get where you were before. ugh!

i'd say, even if it were free, don't get it.

In short, its an abomination. A terrible insult to the original Pool of Radiance with its buggy implementation of th e3rd ed rules. Thankfully I only bought it for around $15 and how I battled for days through it, trying to like it. However, its painfully repeptive uninspired music, insipid meaningless battle upon battles and general lack of interactivity and character meant it was doomed to failure. The graphics are probably its best virtue, but they don't make up for its other failures.

It was easy to get lost in the dungeons which isn't such a bad thing for me, but when they all look the same and barely have any memorable features...that's when it becomes tedious.
A shame to the world of CRPGS really, since the original game was such a classic.

Try playing Baldur's Gate again and have a bit more patience this time...it'll reward you.
