I know DS is not a true type RPG like the BG series, but I thought there might be some players in the forum so here goes:

I'm interested in what other players think of pack mules. I haven't used one yet. I'm at Jeriah's and really haven't needed one yet. Current party of 7: my character (an archer), Ulora, Gyorn, Gloern, Naidi, Lorun, and Merik. I haven't really needed a mule as I can either carry the things I may or eventually will use, or I just transmute. I know I can't buy one from him but the trek back to Glacern isn't really that far. However I know after I leave Jeriah's I have a long way to go to the next stop. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

it is usefull if you have a lot of stuff to carry. and since the nearest merchant is far away. might a well you get one.

however, those packmules will become a nuisance because you have to protect them always. so plan your strategy properly.

I suggest you reduce the number of NPC's. If i am not mistaken the exp earned is shared among the party. You will find advancment get s little slow with too many members.

I used 3 mules in my game, sometimes 4. Haven't needed more that that.

They are good but u must take care to protect them. I usually leave them somewhere safe until an area is secured.

I really like mules, but like the rest say you do have to keep an eye on them.

At one point, in the tower (can't remember the name, it was a while ago! ) I was wading through a bunch of spiders and so on, 'til i realized my mules were nowhere to be found, and then I looked and they were running down a wall being chased by three spiders! It was quite a scramble to chase them down and kill their pursuers!

If you are not using the inventory cheat to increase the size of what you can carry get pack mules. Sorry a mule in real life is about as smart as on in the game.

Just a follow on from what Guinness has already said. In Dungeon Seige there is no re-spawning so once you have cleared an area it will be safe. Added to that the single player game is linear and most of the routes through the game are not that wide. So, clear those flanks and you can have your mule(s) in a separate party bringing up the rear. Due to some weird quirk of programming a mule will pick up items of the ground by itself although it can't go to the shop and sell them.

It's not a classic RPG in the mode of Balders Gate or the Wizardry series but I enjoyed it.

Once you've completed the single player game import one of your strongest characters into the multiplayer game (create it under local network). THe multiplayer game is much more open although with one character but it does get very hairy in places. The only down side here is that as you can only save your character and not the game you must allow serious time to play it.

They will know you by the trail of the dead.
Have fun, Dave.
