I was checking out this game cause I've heard good things . And the system requirements say

- Windows ME/98 128 MB RAM
- Windows XP/2000 256 MB RAM

Now I have win xp with 128MB ram. So will it not work?

It will probably work but you`ll just have to turn the graphics way down and it might be a little slow. You can pick up a 256mb memory stick at Bestbuy or something for $50. Good investment.

From the readme.txt -

There are several things you can do to increase game performance.

1. Slide Real Time shadows all the way off.
On certain machines, shadows become the biggest speed hit.

2. Slide the view distance all the way down.
The farther you can see, the slower the game will run.

3. Slide AI distance to Near.
Causes AI to not process as much for characters closer to you.

4. Turn off music
The music is mp3 format and can eat up CPU time.

5. Turn off pixel shaders if you have them on.
The reflections cause performance to degrade.

6. Lower the game resolution.
The game runs faster at 640x480 and 800x600.

Aelia, memory almost doesn't cost anything anymore these days. Throw in an extra 128 MB, and your safe. You can't have enough of that anyway.

Hmm - is there a grant or funding attached to your masters studies Aelia dear . Johnny is right though, you should be able to pick up the ram fairly cheaply. From what I have heard, you can get the game to rum on 128, but it doesn't run as well or look as good. Most any game nowdays is going to prefer a minimum 256k ram with Windows XP (the system is a memory hog), so I would recommend you make the move from the start.

As for the game - it is MASSIVE (well the game is great too, but the size is masive)- take a good photo of yourself and send it to your friends to remind them all that you still exist, because you may find that otherwise you start fading from their memories. Sorry I haven't written many emails lately Aelia - this game is very addictive .

a) depends what type of memory, rdram and ddr is still expensive comparatively
b) he/she might be under 18 and unable to afford memory
c) he/she might not be able to install memory and require it done professionally which will increase the price.

you gotta help him/her with what he/shes got, not with what he/she might be able to get....

That is a whole lot of he's, she's and might's there Grungi. I can provide most of the answers from Aelia's profile (so I am not giving anything new away) :
1) She
2) 21
3) University student.

From my post you had "about to start Masters degree". So that should allow some general conclusions about fiscal solidity. I have learned over the last two years never to under-estimate Aelia though, so it won't surprise me if she can both afford it and install it herself.
Is this the same Aelia that I took to the football AND the wedding of one of my best mates - I could have sworn she was younger - certainly not a day over 42 . And a self made millionaire - gah, and to think she let ME pay for the hotdogs and cokes
