I was told on the W&W forum that my machine might not be capable of playing Wizardry 8. I was told that I would need a 3d card, but I think that my machine has no capability to accept a card. It's graphics are handled by an Intel 810 graphics chipset that is built into the motherboard. Will I have to invest in a new motherboard and videocard to play.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

You'll need to give specific info on your computer before anyone can answer that.

I don't know if a graphic on-board card will make it, but normally that cards are not that good. You should spend some money in a good graphic card not only for playing wizardry.
You should be able to deactivate the onboard graphic then in BIOS, I guess

Go under start menu, select run, and type "dxdiag". Check under video. If you have 8MB, you should be ok.

Thanks for your help. The intel 810 chipset is only 4.5MB on dxdiag. There is no place to put a video card in the machine so it looks like a replacement motherboard is in order. I will not be able to join your ranks for a couple of months.
Any suggestions on older model cards & motherboards. I may be able to get one second hand. I've heard voodoo cards may cause trouble? I use a celeron processor so the motherboard will have to be compatable with it.

Kev, check your integrated Video, you said you have an Intel 810 chipset thats integrated into your motherboard, and that it is 4.5 mb

Just to let you know, most likely, that 4.5 mb is only the base memory of the Video thats on the motherboard, But...
Look in your BIOS settings on your Motherboard, there should be settings to Increase your Video memory.
some older motherboards allowed up too 64mb, but some of the newer boards, that I have seen, can go to at least 256mb.

Basicly, what that does, is allocating system memory to be used as video memory, which in turn, will lower your total system memory, so make sure you have decent amount of RAM in your computer, before doing that.
If not, you could possibly upgrade your RAM, which would be lot cheaper then buying a new motherboard, or video card.
