'IF' we try thinking logically, casting 'light' spell should make you more visible as a contradiction to 'chameleon' spell; or 'light' only sort of improves caster's vision?
anyways it is hard to find out , as chameleon seems to be working for longer ranges only and i did not think of the way to check the thing out;

it acts just like it would IRL. it makes it easier for you to see around you, esp in a dark place (dungeons, outside at night), and it makes you a beacon for monsters. they see the light and think ::in a growly, rumbly tumbly monster voice:: "F-O-O-D!!". in my games, "light" is something i never use, except for building up my fire realm. and i always cast the last one at a "one bubble" level, then sleep that off. in fact i did the retro-dungeon in the dark. yes ::big smile:: completely without any "light" on the subject. it acts like a mini-hypnotic lure and draws critters out that might normally hide from you! in other words, it's a big fat red X telling everything in a screen's radius that you are there and prolly extremely tasty, too. ![]() V***V [ 01-22-2002: Message edited by: vesselle ]

Never had a problem with light & chameleon at the same time. I routinely have light cast at max power level with chameleon (at lower levels), and am able to avoid most critters with little trouble.

There was only one place where I really noticed that light seemed to wipe out the good that a hiding spell did and that was with Nessie.
In some places it's too dark for me to see without using light. Anyhow, those fights help a lot with experience points... Kayless |

Have to say that personally I've never found chameleon did a thing.
For instance, in the swamp when you round the corner and meet the Rayjin guarding the ... well, don't want to give too many spoilers ![]()

I never noticed that Light attracted more monsters than no-light.
And chameleon does pretty well. But there's plenty of factors
There are places where it ain't gonna do you no good to have chameleon, but not many. I use it mostly to get closer to monsters before I attack (or further, depending) and also to avoid combat when i just wanna travel. The Bayjin cave-guard party can be sneak-attacked. You have to come from down hill and begin the attack before they can see you. You can get a bit closer w/chameleon, but these guys can sense you via your brainwaves, so it doesn't matter if you blend in to the surroundings.

monsters must have value of perception, the higher monster level, the higher level; f.e. some bats can be dodged from quite short distance, but nesse seems to be very sensitive;
anyways, i decided that light is no use for me as i can always adjust ingame game brightness + adjust monitor hehe; light should also logically help with rangers ability detect secrets, but never noticed such a thing;
