Having read most of teh posts on this forum for a while now, I have been surprised that Lords are almost never mentioned. Do most people here just like the other fighter/hybrid fighter classes better?

The problem with lords is that there is nothing particularly uniquely good about them. The valkyrie fights better (with a tactically more flexible weapon) and also gets priest spells. The dual-weapon bonus does not mean much and the lord starts out having to improve two different weapon skills, while the other dual wielders only need to improve one (the samurai improves sword and the rogue dagger). Hit point regeneration is not fast enough to be useful in combat. Outside of combat, healing wounds is a safe way to develop the divine skill and the alchemist, psionic and priest skill. And if the party is in dangerous territory there is no time to wait for the lord to heal up.

The game itself discourages two character concepts I want to implement. I would love to run a double axe wielding dwarven lord or a human lord wielding two maces/flails/morningstars (inspired by the Higardi patrols), but the secondary weapons seem to be confined to wakizashi and the dagger-like weapons.

I had my Lord weilding a sword and a shield...the dude never got hit and whacked the crap outta things. I can't imagine what he'd have been like had we been lucky enough to find Excalibur!
He was able to wear some bada$$ armor that had some hefty resistances too if I remember correctly.
Next time I play, I'll load up my old game and let you know his stats, resistances and such.

I believe the "Hammer" is a secondary mace skill weapon, and the "Bearded Axe" (or possibly 'Bearded War Axe') is a secondary axe skill weapon. I've seen both available from the Arnika armor shop very early.

Not to mention the best secondary weapon in the game, Diamond Eyes, is a mace.

I don't think the Lord is intrinsicly weaker than any of the other hybrids if played correctly (Dual wield sword and mace), the problem is that it doesn't RP well. The lord is the Paladin of Wiz, why would he get a bonus to dual wield? Sword (or Mace) and Shield, this is the classical combo for a paladin. A bonus to Mace & Flail or Sword would have made a lot more sense, or even shield, but with all the armor, yet another bonus to AC was unnecessary.
But compared to other classes, the lord doesn't seem any worse off than the rest. If played the way they're built and not the way they should RP, then they all work fine.

Her are the stats I promised on my Human Lord.
At game's end, he was level 27 and had 294 HP's

The only attribute at 100 was Vitality. STR was 96, INT & PIE were both 78, DEX & SPD were both 80, and his senses were 54.

He weilded a sword (Fang...skill 98, close combat skill 96), a Strong Bow (ranged combat skill 91) and the Dragon Kite Shield (skill 84).

Other armor included Golden Breasplate,
Mantis boots & gloves,
Infinity Helm,
Ebony Plate (L),
Cloak of Many Colors,
Ankh of Might and a Ring Pro Magic.
AC BAse~12/Average~31

Resistances...100 (or more) to all magic realms...the scale only goes to 100.

With his armor bonuses he had a HP regen of +2
Stamina regen +5
SP regen +5

Initiative 30 ~ +2 to Initiative
Damage range 19-46
Attack rating 48
# of attacks 2
Max swings 3
+13 to Hit
+92% to damage

Never hurt, never tired, never out of spell points, I think he turned out pretty well.

I have a Lord, he's the one with Bloodlust. (Someone in another thread, I said it was my Valk - doh, distracted here at work, with 200 calls holding all day!)
