First things first - nice forum, best RPG site I've found on the 'net. (Small quibble - where the heck is the Might and Magic section?!?!? MM9 is coming in 2002!)
Just bought Wizardry 8, my first Wiz experience. I've been a Might and Magic fan since MM1, however, some I'm somewhat familiar with the first person dungeon crawl ![]() That being said, I'm having some thoughts about my initial party. Currently all are level 6, and I've just cleared the monastery, ready to head out on the road to Arnika. Current party consists of: M Dracon Fighter F Felpurr Samurai M Rawulf Lord M Dwarf Priest F Faerie Mage M Hobbit Rogue I've been cruising the forum (trying to avoid spoilers!) and I'm now having some second thoughts, specificially, should I consider changing classes on the Fighter to Lord, the Priest to Bishop, and Rogue to Bard? I'm leaning most toward the last, since I've found an instrument and "Prospero's Cloak" which seems like a pretty spiffy gizmo. Or should I just stick it out and see what happens? Many thanks, and let it be known that I REALLY appreciate the spoiler warnings - I'm going to try to get all the way through this with minimal assistance! Peace, js |

i have a dwarf lord, and don't use the spells much, i would recommend sticking with the fighter, the specialization gives better bonuses.

Hi John,
Ah, the legions of Buckaroo Banzai still exist. How is John Bigbootay these days? Might and Magic eh? I suppose we'll let you stay for that remark, heh heh. Not a fan of that series myself, tried to play MM2, got tired of Leprechauns "vaporizing valuabes" and silly clowns beating the crap out of my party. Just a bit too wild of a game for me. Welcome to the board, you'll find a lot of people here ready to help you, so keep those questions coming! Best Scronan Moderator

Scronan,
Big Bootay is back on Planet 10, living the good life MM7 is really there reason I bought Wizardry8 - I picked it up for something like 7 bucks in the bargain bin and was playing the *$%! out of it. Bloody thing kept crashing on me, but it was too late - I had been reminded just how much fun these types of games could be. Never really got into BG or BG2 (maybe after Wizardry) but did play Torment and Fallout1 and 2 for quite some time (I was sucked into Unreal Tournament, Mechwarrior 4 and Tribes 2 for a while). So far I'm really enjoying Wizardry - I like the formations and the magic system. Still getting used to the interface, but it's becoming more natural. Take care... |

1.) Keep the fighter. A liz fighter can max out vitality by lvl 6 and str soon after, that is a big plus.
2.) Get a Bard, they just plain old rock. As sson as you get to the first town, you get an instrument that, with about 45 min real time, can push your music skill up past 65. You will be able to cast many good spells with only stamina as cost and at much higher levels that your casters. 3.) I'd start with a priest just because Bishops take a lot longer to develop and make the early game harder. (and the early game and your first road trip in particular, is quite hard.) Save the Bishop for later parties after you have a better sense of the game. |

You dont need no steenkin bard
Best party around is Fighter Samaurai Ranger Gadgeteer and 2xBishops Everyone says Bishops take too long to level but I havn't seen this problem, they are pretty much all 14th level right now. The bard is ok, but Gadgeteer gets to make cool devices that I think are better than the bard's equipment. |

I'm glad you found the Wizardry game interesting enough to play and I hope you are enjoying it! Happy Adventuring! EDIT: To add my own 2 cents...I started a game with a Bishop and another with a Priest...stick with the Bishop. ![]() [ 01-10-2002: Message edited by: Moni ] |

I WOULD switch the Lord to a fighter, and have this one specialize in bows and either axes or polearms. And IM (not so) HO, Bards have it ALL OVER gadgeteers and/or rogues. While they don't rack up as many kills as other classes, they're musical abilities are invaluable to the party, esp. as many baddies have much lower resistances to bardic magic than other kinds. And there are WAY more musical instruments than bard gadgets. Yes, by end-game the gadgeteer rocks hard, but for a whole lot of the game, you're dragging around dead weight. As to bishops/Priests, I haven't had much luck with bishops myself, very tricky to develop right. In the hands of an expert, probably the best spell class in the game, but priests are immediately and continually usefull, their defensive magic will save your hide more often than you can count, and watch out when they get the instant-death spell at 11th level.
