Upper monastery: Magnifying Glass?

I understand that there's supposed to be a Magnifying Glass (a gadgeteer item) somewhere in the Upper Monastery, but I can't find it. I have done everything else in the upper monastery, went all the way to Trynton, and returned to clean up what I missed. Can anyone tell me where the Magnifying Glass is?

HI,

I believe the magnifying glass you are looking for is in the room where you can't cast spells and there is a locked door that requires a special key to open.

Look in a dark corner of the room for it.

Well, I looted that room the first time around -- rang the bell, emptied the chest upstairs, and checked the four crates (two on the bottom, two updtairs); I found no magnifying glass then, and I couldn't find it now. There is a boarded-up door behind the treasure chest and two crates, up the stairs in that room -- could there be a way to open that one?

Oops... misread your message, sorry. I just checked the meditation hall itself (rather than the bell room), and found the glass. Thanks.
