hopefully, i'll be getting my copy once the game is released here on monday (fingers x-ed). i've got a question on criticals - does it mean instant death for the receipient?

what are the key stats affecting a ranger's criticals ability?

thx

1) Yes, "Critical" means "Insta-death."

2) I think it's the Ranger's bow skill that determines the % chance of insta-kill.

Unsure. rangers don't get to improve the critical strike ability when they level so it must be ranged combat. Bow may be a factor too. I had a ninja with a score of 83 in crtical strike and had far fewer critical hits than my current ranger who is half the level of the ninja

The attribute Sense plays a large role in Criticals as well.

i have a lvl 6 ranger, d'arcy, who has put the most amount allowed each level up into ranged combat and bow, both (3 points each level up). i totally forgot about senses, altho that's been going up on its own pretty fast.

she rocks those buggers. one bolt from her crossbow and there's monster meat splattered everywhere. she's so cute. she says "wow! lookee. i am really good at killing these buggers!" LOL. i have to agree with her.

The skill that determines criticals for Rangers is Ranged Combat. I am pretty sure it is stated somewhere in the manual not sure where though. According to the right click help senses also plays a factor in determining criticals. My Ranger has been putting maximum points on level up in senses since it supposedly affects scouting as well. Not to mention it helps get to eagle eye.

None of my party has many instant kills yet but I think the ninja and ranger are tied with a couple each. I have hopes that criticals will occur more oftes as they get more attacks and better skill. Only time will tell.

Hi, all!
I am playing an elite party (Lord, Samurai, Monk, Ninja, Ranger, Valk) just for fun. They are lvl 17 now and I must say:
CRITICALS SUCK IN WIZ8!!!
4 of 6 people of my party are able to make critical strikes, but they happen so rarely (every 2-3 battles 1(!) critical). And those few criticals happen mainly because some weapons have a %kill chance on their own.
I must admit that when fighting against monsters with lower lvl than your party criticals (and any other weapon effects) occur more often.
But you do not want to fight crappy low exp monsters just for getting some more critcals, do you?
If I compare my Fighter-Fighter-Rogue-(insert any 3 other pure classes here) party with my elite party, I come to the conclusion:
ELITE CLASSES IN WIZ8 SUCK TOO!!!

So, if ya want to have a challenge or just some fun play with the weak elite classes, else take the "normal" classes you are used to from other RPGs. The only elite class well balanced is a Bishop in my opinion, if you want to strategically fill your character slots.

My opinion and my experience...

P.S.: Those "Killer Monks" with 8*15 dmg bring my 4*120 dmg Fighter to laugh...
