Hello, I have three questions concerning Mages. The first one is: Is there anywhere that I can buy spells before I get in Baulders Gate. (Chap. 3)
The second: What benifites does a specilist mage have? The third: Who would you recommend for a good mage? Thanks |

Well to buy spells near Bergost there is a place called High edge where there is a powerful mage that will sell you spells. His two flesh golems attack you but avoid them run up to him an tell him you hear of a wizard of great power and he will ask what the hell you want. then you can ask if he's got extra stuff to sell.
A specilist mage has the ability to cast one more spell than a normal mage of the same level but a speacialist mage takes on two pealties for this a) he cannot learn a spell form an opposing school ŕ Those I remember: Conjurors ![]() Illusionist (Can't learn Necromancy), Necromancers (Can't learn illusions), ect, ect... If a speacialist tries to learn a speal in his field he gaines a +15% to learn the spell all other spells he has a -15% to learn. Cojuror's are the best since you can carry around identification scrolls in Bg1 Illusionist/Thief gnomes are good also Xan is a good Transmuter, but some people like to dual-class Imoen in a Mage and there is Danarei the witch Misnc protects she's a diviner I belive |

Stradh is right in almost everything... Dynaheir is a invoker i think.
And anyway, i think the best mage in the game is Edwin (though he is evil aligned) a kick ass conjurer !! ------------------ ![]() |

Xan is a good mage with a good sword
But the downside is he's a transmuter which means no invoker spells ------------------ The Legend Rikard T'Aranaxz Master Necromancer Clanmaster and Mental Father of the OHF |

I most definitely agree with Ertai. Edwin is by far greatest. for a couple of reasons: he is a specialist (extra spells) and his opposing school is divination. money is not a problem later in the game, so just go to a store if u need to identify. and how many people do you see crying because they cant cast Infravision ?? not many ! definitely go with Edwin. and about him being evil. I just kept my rep right under his breaking point, (i think it was 17).
