Hiya=)

I`ve heard about King Arthur and Merlin, seen movies and so on. Now I want to read the books. But how many books is it? And what is the titles? Can anyone really recommend them?

Regards Pip!

The book you want is called 'Le Morte Darthur' by Sir Thomas Malory. It is this old story on which all the current films etc. are based. Have fun!

If you want a good fictional read I highly recommend Mary Stewart trilogy -

The Crystal Cave; The Hollow Hill; The Last Enchantment. There's actually a fourth but it's not in 1st person like the trio but it does take up with where the 3rd lets off.

Well worth the reading!!!

Enjoy.

Yes, I hang out here quite a lot. I'm quite selective in what I read, so not as many of my posts are about books - but I watch a vast amount of films, so this forum expanding into films & tv has really made all the difference to me! This is my favourite forum, but I would like it if some more people joined in - we have some great discussions, we are not lacking posters as such, but I think not everyone realises it is here!

There's 'The Once and Future King' by T.H.White, which is a brave attempt to convert Le Morte D'Arthur into a readable format.

And Bernard Cornwell wrote a series of books based on the Arthurian legends, I haven't read them though.

It is truely amazing the number of spin off stories that the original book has generated I remember once trying to read L'mort but got hopelessly lost..then I found LotR and I was hooked on that and never went back

The Cornwell books are excellent, especially for his reinvention of Launcelot.

There was a TV series made here in England based on the King Arthur legends, called Merlin. I thought it was quite good (apart from some very hamy acting from a couple of the actors). It starred Sam Neil as Merlin, and had a few other famous actors.
Afterwards they bought out two novels based on the series. I've got them somewhere, I think. I'll see if I can dig them out.
