I just found this out yesterday, and you guys may well have known about it already, but if your animal companion is hurt (and you aren't currently in combat) you can talk to your animal companion and select the Feed option, which will heal your companion to max hps. Between that and my own regeneration items, I'm having to rest a LOT less often with my ranger.

you can also "possess" your familiar, and have it hit a trap for you.......

Isn't an animal companion, by theory, already posessed? It is just an animal teleported from a nearby area and posessed to tend to your every whim, believing that it is your friend. So technically it would be impossible to posesses a animal companion, because it is already posessed.
