Youll probably laugh but i was asked by a friend what i know about rumors that monks unarmed attack causes attack of oppoturnity. I read faqs describing things repaired by patches(i have 2.01c version installed) but either iam blind or it still the same. If its true than monk would be usseless. Every attack means a counterattack. He has cool abilities but it would be impossible to play with it. So whats true?

There is no attack of opportunity in IWD2, so even if it were true about the monks(which it isn't, but is true for any other class that tries to strike unarmed) you don't have to worry about it..

Hmm... I might be off, but I think that while you train the men at the palisade, you talk about Attack of Opportunity and the like.

Well i read some faqs on gamefaqs and there was written that monks are useless because their unarmed attack causes attacks of opportunity(AoO). I played neverwinter nights and there was feat improved unarmed attack and its describtion was that unarmed attacks no longer cause AoO. Hovewer there is no such feat in iwd2. Iam pretty sure it has to do with the implementation of 3rd edition rules and neverwinter nights uses a more advanced set of rules. Icwd2 is older. And the game itself doesnot help much in this way because it says **** about whats happening in the action bar. So your'e saying there is nothing like that in icwd2 for monk?

There are no attacks of opportunity in IWD2, period. Not against monks, not against anything else, so don't worry about it, monks are perfectly playable.

I've not read any of the faqs or guides to creating characters. I've gotten most of my ideas off of boards such as this one. My current project of a solo Deep Gnome Monk was a challenge between two posters on another board. I thought it sounded like an interesting challenge and the one playing the game bailed at the Fortress. IMO, the best way to create a party is to work up the stats and post them here and ask for advice. You don't always have to take it, but it will atleast give you some additional thought. Most people on here will give you advice and more importantly will tell you why they would choose A over B.

As has been mentioned before, there's no such thing as Attacks of Opprotunities in IWD2, but they exist in 3rd ed. PnP Dnd, and Neverwinter Nights.
If anyone's interrested, here's how it works in NWN: Anyone who attacks someone unarmed will incur an AoO against themselves unless they have the Improved Unarmed Combat feat. Monks get this feat for free at lv.1. I assume it works in a similar manner in PnP. Edit: To clarify a little, it's the attacker who is unarmed above, not the target. Whether the target is armed or not is irrelevant here. [ 02-03-2005, 04:41 PM: Message edited by: Stratos ]
