I was just wondering... I find that I'm playing BG or IWD2 I tend to pause alot during combat, just to keep things organized (and my bard alive). Do you all pause very often while fighting? And does doing this damage my street cred as a "true crpg player"???

I pause often myself and dont see a thing wrong with it. Your giving orders to six characters (well I'm running 6 anyway) and I think it would be a bit stressful to go without pause. And unrealastic, they should be able to have an action every round. With no pause you might miss someone. However someone here did make it to the final battle without using pause, which is quite an achievement!

I agree with LoA . I don't pause *really* often (mostly because I forget ), but in tough battles I do, especially to give people orders to escape or take potions or get a healing spell happening. A 'true CRPG' player has pause as an option, I dunno why you wouldn't use it. I think also it allows more sophisticated battles. Like if you're just meleeing every enemy in turn, not casting any spells or using bard songs or wands or special attacks etc, you wouldn't need pause. Pause lets you try different tactics and battle in the 'true CRPG' way

The pause key is your friend.

I don't think I would be able to play this game without the pause key. I am constantly pausing the game in order to reevaluate the battle and give different commands to the characters. I also like the auto-pause feature. Without it, I would never know if the spell I wanted my spellcaster to cast has already went off or are they still casting it. Before I realized that there was an auto-pause feature, I would give my spellcaster another action and realize later that the spell they were casting was not cast or had been aborted by the new command.

i pause alot during a combat, but i don't know about multiplayer game as I have never play in one before. pausing in single player game especially during combat is very helpful for you to plan your strategy and assign who to fight which monsters, unless there's only one monster. even the game tells you to pause, every time you enter a new map/area, there's a message giving you tips on playing the games, read those, it gives good advice and one of them is the pause key. And don't worry about your street cred pause as many times as you like.

have fun that's the point...

I use auto-pause and pause (spacebar) excessively. Just a habit I picked up back when I was playing Darklands.

Yes the pause facility is essential, especially for spellcasting as its hard to follow moving rabid enemies around with a spell pointer
The manuals for all these Infinity Engine games talk about the need for pausing before combat, this is not something that some people do...EVERYONE does it and its necessary to play the game correctly - even on the multiplayer games spellcaster people have to do it regardless of if everyone else is waiting !
