How can a thief with 110% chance to hide in the shawdows fail? Is there a roll or something that would cause him/her to fail?

Is it not because the game imposes penalties for things such as nearby light sources, etc, making it easier to be spotted? Also, could it be that a roll of 100 always fails and 01 always succeeds,a bit like the "to hit" roll?(20 always hits,1 always misses).

I know they tried to implement more realistic hide in shadows with this to stop thieves just popping out of sight in the middle of the day in the open like you could in BG, but any of you guys find it takes ages to make the check?
My ranger almost always blinks out immediately when I click the button, but my thief takes an age! Because you don't get feedback when the % check happens, I'm not sure if it is registering the action straigt away...or hanging about. |

In D&D there is always a 5% chance of failure no matter how high your skill is I would say that is why you failed. I had a D&D character with 190% chance to find traps so I could have a 95% chance to find magic traps I still failed sometimes. Rarely.

Yah, I've noticed that too. Sometimes she will hide almost instantly, and other times it will take awhile. I have also noticed the same thing with detect traps. There have been several times that when I turn on detect traps I still hit them because it takes like up to 15 seconds for her to find them. Nothing more annoying than to think your safe, and running into a trap. GRR!!! I hate that.

I have seen the same problems with finding traps. I found that moving your mouse over the area while trying to detect traps helps. It seems to help active the find trap ability. Good luck!

Yeah - it's a bit of an oversight. You can disarm traps you haven't detected 'officially'. I tend to use this on chests as it saves time.
