I am having problems playing baldurs gate. While playing it sometimes randomly reboots my computer. Also sometimes it loads slowly but eventually goes. I did full install and am running windows xp with a geforce2 mx400 64meg.. has anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it by any chance? i really want to play but I cant till i can fix this. O also, I reformatted my windows partition (it needed it anyway) and it still doesnt help. The game is even on a different hard drive.

It's difficult to diagnose, without further information. Does it do it ONLY during BG or other games too. I had to the same problem, turns out that the cheap memory stick I was using wasn't able to handle the FSB speed with any stability, so the BIOS would reboot the machine to clock the memory speed down. I running XP also with a 64mb GF3, and no problems. Check DXdiag for problems as well.

Yes, it only does it in BG. How would i be able to test the FSB speed thing to see if it could handle it just to be sure? Also i checked DxDiag and everything is fine.

Do you have your machine overclocked? If not then your FSB should be at its default. If it only does it during BG, then it sounds like a software problem and not a hardware issue. Have you installed the latest drivers for all you hardware?

I do not know, if this option exists also in WinXP, since I use Win2k, but there you can check a box, which reboots the computer in case of a fatal system error. IIRC, it was in some menu if you rightclick on my computer and select properties.

no my machine is not overclocked and yes i have all the latest drivers. i also found that auto-reboot thing and unchecked it. ill give it a try and see if the game just freezes now or still reboots. One thing i was thinking, I remember once in a while id get a fatal crash just doin somethin and it would reboot on me but when i got back in it would tell me the details on why. but with bg ir just reboots, doesnt even ask me about safe mode and all that and doesnt bring up the details box thing
