I'm trying to install ToB, but I've run into problems.
I've successfully installed SoA. I've installed the official patch on top of that. I have not installed the SoA Baldurdash Fixpack, and I have not installed any SoA mods. My copies of SoA and ToB are North American. SoA has 4 CDs to it, while ToB has only one. My operating system is WinME, and I don't have a Sound Blaster audio card. What happens during installation: No matter if I select minimum or full installation, the install proceedings will ALWAYS stall around 60%, where the install asks me, "Please insert disk 0 that contains the file data3.cab." This puzzled me for a while, until I put in SoA Disc 2. Then it asked for data4.cab, and I put in SoA Disc 3. Then it asked for data5.cab, and I put in SoA Disc 4. Then it asked for data6.cab, and I didn't know what to feed my hungry CDROM drive. I've looked up all sorts of FAQs and searched the back posts at all three fora I'm cross-posting to. This question has been asked, but never really been answered. (A lot of times, people think it's the "Disc 5" problem. Strange thing is, the install's asking me for disk 0, not disk 5.) Hopefully, some Thalantyr or Volothamp or Elminster out there can point me in the right direction so I can actually start playing this game tonight.

UPDATE: I think the cab.2 file (the 100+ KB one) on my ToB disk is corrupted. Every time I try to copy it over to my HD, it gets about 80% of the way, then gets an error reading from the CD. I don't understand. This CD is scratch-free. What is going on here?!

There is always the last resort. Uninstall everything and delete any leftover folders. Then re-install in the following order,
1) SoA 2) ToB 3) ToB Official Patch 4) ToB Baldurdash Fixpack Consider backing up your saved games too. |

Could be a dirty lens in your CDROM. Has the same effect as a scratched CD. Tends to effect low-quality CDs first (Baldurs Gate CDs are low quality). A five quid cleaning CD will fix that. Game! or somewhere like that will carry them.
