I'm curious about this.

I've never fully played through ToB for a variety of reasons; my original character (24+ sorceror) I stopped playing near the end of ToB, and when I started again, I played a swashbuckler, who stood utterly /no chance/ versus the Ascension final battle (for the uninitiated, yes, thats the Ascension mod that greatly ups the ante).

Now, I decided to inject the game with something new. Since I'm familiar with pretty much every damn dialogue in the game, I decided to break out the editors and make a unique character, with stat editting and all that junk.

How do you view this sort of thing? Fun? Stupid? Silly?

Hey, the more you can get out of the game the better.

I believe that you should always finish a game once without editing/cheating.

After that, it's up to you to keep the game interesting and new. Of course, without ruining anyone elses fun.

You bought the game for you to have fun. If it makes it more enjoyable for you to edit it then go right ahead. Thi sis not an online game like EQ where editing might make it fun for you but ruin it for others.

I have done it after completing the game. Had a hacked character/team, and changed class during the game just to do all of the quests. It felt nice to have a few extra strong fighters just step toe to toe to groups of creatures and hold there own without retreating and regrouping.

It is also fun to create a magic user and make it max level, high intellegence and grab all of the spells. Nice way to experience every spell in the game...

There is nothing unethnical about hacks/trainers, as long it is kept in the single player campaign. If you wish to use them for the initial game experience, hey it's your experience, that's fine. Personally I find it more challenging not to use them until I have beaten the game. Then its time to have fun and experiment.

I have no problem with doing it. I usually complete the games before editing them, but that's because usually I get these games quite early and there aren't any editors out there yet to use. (I got BG2 the week it came out and was too busy playing it to worry about using SK.)

I tend to customize my games quite significantly when I've completed them. I playtest - create personal weapons, spells, scenarios, etc. Adds to the replayability. Otherwise it would be gathering dust on a shelf somewhere.

Remember - if you think you're cheating doing it, you're only cheating against yourself, so where's the harm? What's important is that you're enjoying yourself. The exception is when you're playing MP - then you should play fair.
