The Humbling
--------

I did not sleep well these past few days, nightmares plagued my mind as vicious images of Dragons taunt me in my head. I was trained as a Cavalier, and fighting Dragons was supposed to be my forte, but the recent battle I had with Abazigal and his minions forced me to use every single trick I had up my sleeve and then some.

Though Abazigal was easy enough, his right-hand man, Tamah, was a force to behold and very nearly ended my life.

But I speak too fast, I had to go through several events before I met Abazigal, events which lured me into a sense of security. It all started when I went to the temple, Abazigal's temple, and I encounted Draconis, Abazigal's son. I was confident at first, but confidence soon gave way to terror as a torrent of acid spew onto me. My equipment was dissolving and the shield was practically useless against the onslaught. I had no choice but to retreat, and as I ran away, the taunts from Draconis stung my ears.

Humilated, I went back to town to repair my equipment and decided to visit the spellshop to see if I could get anything useful. I did not explain why I needed acid protection but the shopkeeper was helpful and displayed an array of protection scrolls that I could use. There were several types of these scrolls, protecting from the various elements, and I chose to buy 2 scrolls of Protection from Cold, Lightning and Acid, and 1 scroll of Protection from Fire.

The shopkeeper must have sensed I was in a buyable mood, because he asked if I would like to purchase some potions as well. He explained that the scrolls were very precious since they lasted for 12 hours and should be used properly; the potions he sold however, confers the same benefits but lasts only for 10 minutes.

I was undecided really, but he did have a point, I did not know how much longer my journey would take and there could be many more dangers ahead, so I bought every single potion he had. He was a very happy man when I was done, and my backpack was bulging with protectional stuff.

Draconis
--------

Once again, I found myself at the entrance to Abazigal's Lair. I took out the 2 scrolls of Protection from Acid and casted them on myself. I knew that they were precious, but there was no potion substitute so I had no choice.

Gripping Crom Faeyr tightly, I marched forward and yelled for Draconis. It did not take long for him to respond and he laughed at me, asking whether I was asking for a second round of pain. Speech done, he spitted his acid again and my stomach clenched instinctly. To his surprise, the acid did not hurt me, in fact, it seemed to heal me as the magic of the scroll absorb the acid, converting it into healing magic.

Draconis was furious and charged me, my confidence surged, I was immmuned to his Dragon's Breath, and I could never lose to a Dragon in melee. Whirlwind after whirlwind, I stripped away his Stoneskins and struck with precision. Draconis tried to wear me down by summoning several Invisible Stalkers, but I ignored them, for I was immuned to their attacks.

Draconis was a hardy Dragon, and took a lot of punishment, but he was not immortal and I eventually landed the killing blow on him. His body now at my feet, I severed off his head as a trophy( for he was the first Dragon I could not defeat the first time round) and tried to enter the Lair proper. Strangely, Draconis's head dissolved as I walked in. I had no time to be annoyed though, there were several Lesser Earth Elementals and a Were-Wyern in front of me.

The Lesser Earth Elementals were not a problem and the Were-Wyern soon fell to my attacks. There were three doors and all were locked, as expected. I pondered my situation and glanced at the room I was in. There were 4 pools of water, and if I was correct, they were underground water tunnels. I could not hold my breath indefinitely though, and salvation came in the form of an empty flask I looted from the Were-Wyern's body.

Taking a deep breath, I plunged into the shortest looking one... ...

Inside The Lair
--------

It took a long while and several battles, but eventually, I explored all the tunnels. The first tunnel I went through, led me to a fight with several Frost Salamanders, I killed them all and entered the room in that area which led to a fight with two Bone Fiends. The room had a pool containing some strange liquid; upon further inspection, I realised it was magical liquid oxygen. It should be useful for holding my breath longer, so I used the flask I had and filled it up with the liquid oxygen.

The next tunnel I went through led me into a fight with several batches of Kuo-Tuo and Water Elementals. The fight was really one-sided though, as I was immuned to their weaponary and I had to stifle a yawn as I swung my blade carelessly, removing several heads in the process. I guess I would left the place sooner out of boredom had I not discover a prison. I was intrigued to find out why was there a Balthazer monk caged inside, I tried to heal him but he was beyond my help. Before he died though, he asked me to defeat Abazigal for him and gave me a rope that I could use to navigate the tunnels. He also told me that Abazigal was guarded by an unwilling guardian and that I could break the geas she was under by finding the Scroll of Reversal that was taken from him. On his last breath, I said a quick prayer to Torm for him as he died.

Rope and Liquid Oxygen in hand, I went through a third tunnel and was immediatedly ambushed by several... floating eyes... I was so stunned that I just stood rooted to the spot as the eyes casted spell after spell at me, bouncing harmlessly off the Cloak of Mirroring. Once I recovered from the ridiculous sight though, I easily cut a swath through the eyes. It was then that I encountered the creator of the eyes. Through questioning, I discovered that he had the scroll I was seeking and bade me to help him find a missing eye of his before he would turn it over.

I was feeling impatient and tried to persuade him to hand it over now, but he refused and told me to get the help of the statues behind me then. Before I speak on, he teleported out of sight. I turned around and looked at the statues and poked them. Sadly, they all crumbled into dust and I sighed.

Getting the eye was not easy, it was guarded by 3 Elder Orbs and a Gauth. I had to be really alert to make sure none of the Elder Orbs could cast Imprisonment on me. Several Whirlwinds later, they all lay dead and I had my eye. Well, the creator's eye actually, erm... Oh whatever... ...

The exchange was made quickly and I asked him why was he doing all this, his reply angered me and we exchanged heated words. It would seem that he was helping Abazigal spread terror and I would not allow it, inenvitably, we had to fight. I feared no Mages though, and he fell quickly, even with the help of his... eyes, his floating living pets that is.

Scroll in hand, I quickly searched for the guardian Dragon and removed her geas. She was unappreciative but her want of revenge was strong and she gave me the wardstone so that I could enter Abazigal's Lair safely.

Thus the nightmare... began... ...

The Fight
--------

Equipment
--------
Armour: Shuruppak's Plate
Gloves: Gauntlets of Extraordinary Specialisation
Helmet: Helmet of Defence
Amulet: Amulet of Seldarine
Rings: Ring of Gaxx, Ring of Earth Control
Cloak: Cloak of Mirroring
Boots: Boots of Speed
Belt: Girdle of Fire Giant Strength

Weapons used in all attempts: Angurvadal +5, Crom Faeyr +5, Axe of Unyielding +5, Purifier +5, Carsomyr
Shield: Darksteel Shield

I would also like to thank Lady Luck and Uncle Cheese for which without their presence, this would never have been possible.

Non-Health Potions Drank: Potion of Heroism, Potion of Cold Resistance x2, Potion of Insulation x2, Potion of Freedom, Potion of Regeneration, Potion of Invisibilty( lost count).

Scrolls: Protection from Magic x2( HaHaHaHa!!!! I knew it would pay to buy these in SoA... ...)

Number of failed attempts: 18 and a half( I will explain the half later... ...)

Deaths due to,
Maze: 8
Imprisonment: 2
Swarmed: 3
Tamah: 4
Abazigal: 2

I will just describe the successful attempt... ...

Before entering the chamber, drink all the protection potions and cast Armour of Faith, Aid, Draw Upon Holy Might and Hardiness. Initial weapon, Crom Faeyr.

Save

Charged in like a mad man and tried to sandwich Leonardo in between Abazigal and the wall. I did this so that nobody else could melee me as I deal with Abazigal mano-a-mano. I got lucky too, because the 6 Wyerns blocked Tamah, so she could not use her Dragon's Breath on me( thank goodness... ...).

Abazigal tranforms into a Dragon and sits on Leonardo. I cast my first Protection from Magic scroll, rendering Abazigal's Imprisonment useless. I lost all my buff spells though. I switch weapon to Angurvadal +5, because Abazigal is immuned to Lightning. Somehow he manages to Wing Buffet Leonardo out and Leonardo flies across the room to the other side. The 6 Wyerns give chase, and YES! Abazigal and Tamah stay where they are and do not chase after Leonardo.

THANK YOU LADY LUCK! THANK YOU!!!!

Dispatched all the Wyerns and the 4 Frost Salamanders at the back of the room. As the last Salamander dies, Tamah and Abazigal awakens. My cue to portal out of there.

Hi Cespenar! Lovely day we are having, save, save, save... ...

Fully recharged, I casted another Protection from Magic scroll on Leonardo and cast Hardiness. I waited 6 seconds and strode forth. Upon reaching the destination, I got Leonardo to gate in a Deva. I did the same thing again and sandwiched Leonardo in between Abazigal and the wall, blocking Tamah who was distracted by the Deva. Whirlwinded like crazy and defeated Abazigal, proceeded to jump and down like a raving baboon in real life.

Unfortunately... the victory was short-lived, because after all the talks with the Solar, I got teleported back and got squished by Tamah... thus the half-failed attempt... proceed to round two, same story as before with one important difference.

Abazigal dead, I ran away from Tamah's sight and portaled away, wheeee!

I rested and pondered. Screw this, I wanted to inflict maximum carnage on the purple bas***d! So I kept the Shield and retrived Carsomyr from a container in my Planar Stronghold.

I went back into the fray and screamed like a mad man( in real life), Carsomyr dispelled away all the Stoneskins and the 85% Magic Resistance protected me from Tamah's Mazes. So I like chanted like a lunatic, DIE! DIE! DIE! DIEEEE! Whirlwind after Whirlwind as I chopped and hacked and slashed Tamar into teeny-weeny little widdle pieces... ...

Balthazar better watch out... ...

Very good!!! (Loud applause) You should send this to GD, cuz i don't know how. the talemaster Joven still has lots to learn, and he is learning from such gifted writers as you. I'm thinking of my next story, "The Rackety Hydra" or maybe some other titles.
