Kensai/Thief is insane. I can occasionally get backstabs for 200+ hps. Once a Kensai/Thief learns the high level thief ability "use any item", it is all over. You can then wear armor and bracers, and even cast spells from scrolls.

Won't a Kensai/Theif still have the restrictions of the Kensai? (ie. they shouldn't be able to wear armor because their remove restriction is limited to theif abilities.)

Like Ivanale says, fighter (berserker) cleric, is awesome. Do a search on my post on the "best BG2 player character - VERY LONG" on the Amn board to find out why.

i think just a basic fighter mage class is the best multi (read the post about my theory to see why).i understand that other classes can do this as well, but when they run out of spells a standard fighter/mage can go w/ +3 full plate for superb protection (how would you run out of spells anyway?) in combat, supported by a 2-handed sword.

A ranger/cleric is an interesting and powerful dual class. You get access to both druid and cleric spells this way! Druids have some very nice spells, but I do not feel they are worth it as far as character classes go, but this way you get the spells anyway.
