Ok for everyone else how the hell do you beat Melissan? I took her on and beat her back but then I got attacked the air elemental group and I was so weak they easily crushed me. Any ideas on spells etc? She seems immune to all magic I think.....Grrrr......

Heal spells and healing potions helps. After fighting the air elementals, heal everybody before continue fighting her again. One thing, dont fight all the air elementals at the same time, let them out one by one and kill them. As for Melissa, ignore her pets, concentrate in beating her.

I have three mages--Aerie, My Elf Mage, and Imoen... which meant I was a little screwed when it came to fighting melissan. Here's how I dealt with it.

I buffed up my fighters (Keldorn Minsc and Jaheira) with haste and the like.

I memorized as many Comets, horrid wiltings, lower resistance, breach, ruby ray of reversals as I possibly could.

So when the fight starts, my fighters charge her, not using any techniques yet since she stoneskins. I retaliate with a breach and a ruby ray of reversal while the last mage casts a lower resistance. overkill maybe but I'm that kind of guy.

When stoneskin drops, I use greater whirlwind on all my fighters (thank god for pause) and have my mages cast another lower resistance, a horrid wilting, and aerie casts a mass cure.

From then on I pelt her with magic missiles while the fighters beat her using aerie to heal as needed and imoen to strip defenses as needed.

You have to fight her 4 times total so spell rationing is required.

But I agree, the basic concept is strip her defenses and beat her to death. Dont' kill her minions cause if anything dies near her, it comes back as a slayer shadow.

It helps to have several character who are able to cast mage spells in your party (and druid). Summon some friends like deva, elemental prince to aid you against the shadow slayers and other creature she summons. 2 area effect spells I've found useful, they are Abi Dalzim Horrid Wilting and Dragon Breath, since neither one of them will damage friendly creatures. Make sure you conserve these high level spells (don't use ALL of them in the first minute). As for melee, your high level tanks should be able to tackle her, but watch out for the hit points of your characters with lower hitpoints.

P.S. A side note, Melissan is NOT affected by the effect of time stop, she will continue to summon and attack while only your mage who casted time stop is active (NOT GOOD!!).

Yeah, I learned this all the hard way after trying for 6 hours but I FINALLY GOT HER!!!
And what a fantastic ending too I might add... but won't say anymore about that.

Spell rationing is key... use every scroll/staff you've been saving all this time, as well as potions or anything else... that IS the end.

The arena design isn't great, but with good placing you can split up your attackers from the 3 pockets. Forget any invisibility uses. Everything in TOB can see invisibility (huge gripe I might add...).

Deva's are amazing effective since most of the things Melissan summons can hardly damage them, and they can use the blade shields to buffer your party.

You'll have 7 fights in all, but you can quicksave inbetween. However, save different slots since if you botch up fight #3, you might not realize how big a mistake using the spell was until #7.


Since we're in the final battle spoilers... anyone know what was the instant-death attack those multiple arm caster things with giant nipples were using... that fight took me the longest by far since SOMETHING would keep insta-killing him... and I didn't have any deathwards available so it would be reload.
