Holy dung! And people say they've managed to KILL him before he teleports away???

They say that in his first appearance on the ground floor of Durlag's, the Demonknight has the Helm of Opposite Alignment, and that killing him, right then and there, is the only way to get that helm. (Besides cheating, of course.) So, adventurous late-night gamer that I am, I decided to have a go. I came prepared: 45 Arrows of Detonation, the best bows in the game, and some marshmallows to toast over the inevitable bonfire of one crispy Demonknight. I position my men wisely. The one guy who can't use the Arrows (my Cleric) has a Necklace of Missles and a Wand of the Heavens, as well as the Boots of Speed, so he can move like hell if he needs to. The innocents are safely Charmed and out of the line of fire. I talk to Ike the last time, and fire the Necklace of Missiles at where I know the Demonknight's going to appear. He does, and my Hasted, Chanted archers open fire. We do a powerful amount of damage, but the bad guy survives long enough to Dimension Door back to his studio apartment.
So I Reload and try it again.

And again.

And again. Each time, he somehow manages to cast 3 spells (2 Fireballs & a Dimension Door) in what seemed like 1 round, all the while absorbing over 250 hitpoints of damage from all those Arrows of Detonation being pounded into him. I don't think the guy even flinched from the damage, although it was rather difficult to see, since that whole area of the screen was filled with the shock waves from the fireballs. And every time, he has enough hitpoints to take the damage, cast his fireballs and leave. I even cheated the last time--I summoned up an Eldoth, so I could have Bard Song on top of my Chant and Haste. Still no Helm of Opposite Alignment.

So--the guy's Magic Resistance makes him pretty much immune to any Hold or Silence spell I put on him, so any attacks must be physical. But if Arrows of Detonation aren't fast enough to kill him, what on earth WOULD be???

I'd say 2 options.
1:Use cheats. Summon a friendly drizzt. Thats one way.
2:Go insane on him. get ur guys to the place where he teleports, and as soon as you see him, (make sure you have haste, chants, wonder spells, ect) then whack him hard. Have thiefs invisible to try to backstab. Never tried it though....

Six i spent at least 3 to 4 hours trying to kill him its must be damn near impossiblei used almost every tactic i could think of and i had no luck and i dont think his magic resistance is 100% because i hit him with a wand of paralyzation a couple of times and instead of saying magic resistance like it usually does it said save vs wands
but if you do kill him it'd be a waste of a good dungeon so i left him

But.....but.....he's a monster! Adventurers have to do everything they can to kill monsters, right? Right?
Reason 1) Because (there's a rumor that) he has a unique magic item.
Reason 2) Because he is there.
Sigh.....well, if he Saved vs. Wands, I suppose there's at least a 1-in-20 chance that he'll fail the Save. I'll try to collect 6 folks who can use that Wand or cast Hold Person......next game. No, the game after the next one, because I've already started the next one.
