There is also a very important scroll dropped by the dragon. It tells how to create one of the most powerful weapons in the game.

For some reason I have trouble believing that little rocks that explode into little patches of flame can injure a dragon, especially a red one... But that's just me

I have another question related to the Temple Ruins. As there is a second shadow door in there that I have never found a way of opening for. Is there any? Or should I content myself with walking over that lava patch every time?

There is no way to open that door so you have to walk over the lava unfortunately.
