(at the end of nalias keep) seem pretty tough? even when I fight him with a pretty well stacked party (and we have a few quests under our belts)

paladin with shield and Daystar

barbarian with two handed sword of chaos (I believe thats what it is)

thief (halfling)with arbanes short sword and orc armor

cleric with sling +2 and bullets +2 and ankheg armor and shield

sorceress with robe of Vecna and some good spells

archer with eleven court bow and arrows of peircing

I still have trouble defeating him, and the only way I can seem to do it (even after cating tons of spells and junk on my people right before fighting him) is by summoning animals and distracting him and the two giant trolls with him.

It seems like I had an easier time beating him when I had a party of a swashbuckler, dwarven berserker, blade, cleric, druid, and mage, because I used the druid, mage, and cleric to summon buttloads of animals. (even a couple level 5 spells and stuff)

am I doing something wrong?

I've been through the game a couple times, and most enemies dont seem to give me as much trouble.

In my last game TorGal was a piece of cake. After all my PC was a Stalker with Racial enemy: Troll.
But even if you don't have one of these advantages TorGal is not THAT bad although he has some mean abilities.
The key is to deal a lot of damage fast as he does not have an incredibly high AC or 200+ HP (like e.g. dragons) but is only strong in attacking. so use some of your meanest spells and backstab him and don't forget to use some acid or fire to not have him rise again

he's a good fight i reckon - i always go to torgal's place early and have usually lobbed a couple of cloudkills in and closed the door (slightly cheesy but i can imagine my fighters desperately trying to hold the doors closed - piling chests and dead monstes in front of them . . . )

i did it properly this time though an it was good

you say you're castign plenty of pre-buffing spells - is one of them haste? that'd be important

Are you fighting the other trolls and Torgal all together? It's much easier to seperate them by sending in a invisible character which only Torgal can see(he smells the invisible character). He will follow it leaving the other trolls behind you can then concentrate on Torgal and kill the other trolls later.

if you want to face him and his goons straight up (without cloudkill and web), summons to distract them and magic will help a lot. based on my experience, the most useful spells...horror and confusion, sometimes hold monster, and summon insects (if Jaheira in higher level, insect plague will do wonder). When they suffer both physically (insects) and mentally (panic and confused) your tanks can have easier time to finish them. one more thing, when they're panic, they'll run around and trolls run FAST, so you'd better get everybody hasted.

I'm guessing improved, because my level 9 solo Cavalier had no trouble with Torgal...

Correction: It seems to be regular; summoning animals wouldn't slow down Imp. Torgal enough to make him that much easier.

Just lure one by one out the door, close the door, and kill it. Then you can rest and heal up, before you open the door and get the next one out.
