Oh yes, and one more thing: Your characters likely spent some time camping out on the Achen side of the portal before heading through, it's up to you if they spent that time making friends with each other or just reading books and sleeping.

The first would give them a bit more reason to stay together on the unknown side of the gate, but it's up to you.

Looks like I'm coming in... I should have a character worked out before the weekend is over, unless something comes up. Now, introductions, is it?

I got into RPGs with Baldur's Gate - picked it up on a whim in junior high, read through the manual cover-to-cover several times, and absolutely loved the game. I found Ironworks after the old BG Dungeon site/forums closed and have stuck around (on and off) since then.

My first experience with D&D was actually one of Purple's games here, which is still the best game of D&D I've played in. My first experience with an evil character was also in one of his games, playing a homebrew vampire thingy that I'm sure Calaethis in particular has many good memories of. At some point I started obtaining and reading (or at least skimming) every D&D book I could get my hands on, along with various other RPGs - play experience is mostly 2ed AD&D and 3.5 D&D, along with a bit of Mage and Alternity, but I'm at least moderately familiar with all of the old and new World of Darkness line, various permutations of D&D and the d20 system, Unknown Armies, Feng Shui, All Flesh Must Be Eaten, Kult and a few others. I'm currently running a P&P Eberron game (the relatively new and highly awesome D&D setting, for those unfamiliar) at college.

On a side note - Purple's not (that) scary as a DM, as long as you don't do something stupid. Heck, all in all he's probably nicer than I am... ahem. I'm posting from US Eastern at the moment, not sure where I'll this summer.

Guess I'll throw in my quick background summary here:

Started with first edition d&d when I was a kid, loved throwing the dice around with my older siblings. Moved on to 2nd edition in high school and third edition in college. For the most part I've played 2nd edition, sort of 'vanilla' settings, the only official campaign setting I've played is Planescape, which was a lot of fun. My character did a lot of hiding. And lying when he was found. I've tried a handful of other gaming systems but d&d was and is my favorite. I've gamed online in only a couple of games, but hopefully I'll be able to keep up with the vets.

I found IW through bg2 and morrowind, have posted mostly in this forum. Occasionally I show up in GD or the books and movies section, but I've been a lurker for years and old habits are hard to break.

It's actually not about Feng Shui... Feng Shui the game has a very rules-lite system for modeling the sort of stuff you see in various sorts of action/martial arts/etc movies. The system encourages characters to describe what they're doing in interesting terms and come up with exciting (and fun to listen to) things to do. Quite cool, actually.

Unfortunatly because of lack of time I won't be able to participate in the game *just* yet...got lots going on at the moment, I thought it wouldn't be this hectic but, well, I thought wrong.

Will check when life calms down a bit.

I remember a few threads talking about Feng Shui on RPGnet, but couldn't stop giggling at the name (I'm mature!). It seemed like an interesting concept, but could never find manuals.

Well, it seems I’ve been convinced to join this game, and since everyone’s introducing themselves and their RPing origins…

My first taste of RPing was here, on IWs. It was new to me and well, the idea of writing a story sounded like fun. Lady Blue invited me to join her after we’d spammed Cloudy’s Café and I accepted. My first RPing experience can actually be found here – it’s a thread called “Captive”, about page 10 or so. I recommend you don’t look though. I’ve long since improved my spelling and grammar since then .

Some time a little later, for reasons I forget, I joined another forum and joined “Purple’s” game. Back then, he was known to me under another name, but from what I understand, he has chosen to leave that behind, so I won’t bring it up. From there, I Rped with several others, both Seph and Enc being two such people. After the board died, a few years later, I moved on and both joined and DMed other games.

I still like to RP at IWs, because in a very real sense, its where my RPing roots are.

And there, you have it.

I don’t remember actually. I do recall something about fire and some elf’s… crotch being fried, but… yes, some of it is coming back to me. I forget the character’s name though.

I tend to prefer not to play elves now, but I'll play a half elf for old time's sake.

Oh, hey, now I'm remembering that bit, too.

Ah, the good old days, where a critical roll of ANY sort always meant a nut-shot, heheheh.

Thankfully I've grown up since then. Now I do both nut-shots and people getting hit in the butt.

If no one has any objections, since people haven't gotten very far, I've given Colin permission to RP having stepped out of the portal with the rest of you, but not having said anything yet, possibly due to disorientation or just not having anything to add right away.

Also, no one's quite tackled the issue of whether the PC's spent their time prior to hopping through the portal getting to know each other, or whether they just sat around brooding about their no-doubt-tragic pasts by themselves. Anyone care to chip in on this subject? I mean, I'm not demanding anything, it'd just be nice to know what I should expect, and what the other players should expect.
