Just about done with the Cleric, so I'll try this out once I've reinstalled the game and looked over what mods I want for my next game. It looks interesting, have you any other modifications to the starting dungeon on the drawing board? Like toning down Zhivago and changing his spell selection, or giving them all the ability to open doors?

As for modifying Zhivago, how so? I would like to settle what to do with him first, before actually tweaking him. Like what level, what spells, what anything. Currently my slate is empty. I was going to add more variety to the possible spawns, but decided that it would be overkill. At least now your trip through the dungeon is somewhat random. I still might add Jack & Jill for the second level though... a pair of lunatic Shadow Thieves in case you are wondering. ADD] Ack! I forgot to mention something. I replaced the Wand of Frost with the Wand of Cursing instead. This is to prevent the SThieves from killing each other. On another note... what do you think fits the Duergars more? Bolts of Lightning, or Bolts of Polymorphing? ADD x2] I just remembered something I wanted to do. Buff up the SThieves that fight the Vampire. Six mentioned in his review that he can open doors. As for Zhivago, Six had a good idea of what he should be like. Having him at the same XP as the rest of the party seems logical enough to me. 1 000 000 XP would set him at 12th level and give him 8,7,6,4,2,2 spell slots. (with 18 WIS) He could start with summoning two Aerial Servants, which I in fact think would be more challenging than the single Deva he currently summons. Especially since you cannot simply wait for them to unsummon (they would last for 12 turns). 5th level, a Flame Strike to go with his regular True Sight, and this could be his third spell to cast. 4th level, Defensive Harmony x2 (only cast if at least two other members of his party are within range), Mental Domination, and a Cloak of Fear. 3rd, a Dispel Magic or two, a Remove Paralysis, and a few Unholy Blights also perhaps? 2nd level, Mostly Hold Persons, but also a Silence 15' Radius or two, which he could cast if he spots any spellcaster. 1st level, Doom, Bless, and Armor of Faith. Maybe he could also have a few Magic Stones memorized to pelt you with as a final desperate act Definitely remove his undroppable +2 Full Plate and replace it with a droppable regular Full Plate, and make sure none of his spells are forcecast. That would do it for me. ADD] Personally, I think Wands of Lightning would suit the Duergars best. [ 02-26-2004, 11:30 AM: Message edited by: Rataxes ]

How, pray me tell, can the party hope to defeat 2 monsters that're immune to normal weapons with a +1 quarterstaff? You'd have to wait for it to disappear, or run away and shut a door in its face. Or click around for 12 minutes, hoping that it doesn't wallop you for 26 damage. =/

Right. I forgot about that. However, the one thing that they all have in common is that they're melee weapons. You don't want to melee a monster like that in the early game. =/ And if they're Hast'ed, forget it.
'Enchanted Weapons' Aren't the useful ones melee? [ 02-26-2004, 07:14 PM: Message edited by: Assassin ]

Well, Weimer has implemented several changes that makes my tweaks almost redundant. Man, and it has not even been a day since completion either. Not sure what kind of Duergars he is going to use though, but they all have 89000XP, so that is so far so good.
His changes are going to force the doors to remain open though. Not sure whether this would be a good thing. Keeping fingers crossed on it. |

Zhivago, a revised look.
Level 13 STR and such remains the same. Save VS Death/Wand/Poly/Breath/Spell: 1/5/8/11/6 Base THAC0 changed to 12 He has 18 WIS, so... 8/8/7/5/2/2/0 spell slots. Still deciding on what spells to use. His original XP value was 20000, I have reduced it to 13000. Is this fair, too much, too little? ADD] Current equipment list, Helmet, Full Plate Mail, Medium Shield, Ring of Protection +2, Ring of Talos, Flail +1, Sling +2, 20 Bullets +2, 5 Potions of Extra Healing.
