MEH!

(Note to self: before conferring titles, drink the after-work coffee and get everyone's names first. )

Everyone gets the point I'm trying to make, right?

Sarcasm: (n) Subtle, ironic humor, biting satire.

To paraphrase my original message, I'm not in charge here, so I have no right dictating the rules.

However, I feel that there were certain rules I agreed to follow when I signed up that other people do not take as seriously as I do, and there are times I wish they would.

(Again, the worship of Six will continue unabated. )

I agree that there are way to much spoilers here. I think that there should be a new rule that every spoiler should be written in colour code: the same colour as the background of the screen. This way every spoiler needs to be highlighted to read it.

Yes, this is mostly a case of "better than you" syndrome; where one person tries to undo the other. Yes, it does get annoying, and yes, it does go against the spirit of the forum. But if people want to be spoiled, and want their gaming experience ruined, that IS up to them. The worse thing is when people deliberately spoil, even WITH spoiler tags, things that were unrelated to the topic, or something that wasn't specifically asked.

Thankfully, the kind of people who do this prefer to post questions instead of help people with answers

Anyways, just wanted to get that off my chest.

[PS, Pirengle, I'm gonna send you that PM one day, as soon as I can. I haven't forgotten ]

Actually, I always thought of the moderators as gods/demi-gods, and the afore mentioned people the informant kings. Sorry Xen, but you're included. BTW, i like to consider myself the jester of the court!

Later, all, and peace!

About me and rants: I must admit that I enjoy embellishing my arguments with a bit more....color....than is strictly necessary. Sometimes this is done simply to ensure that I get my point across (see various recent threads concerning the Rebalanced Shapeshifter), and sometimes it's done just to show off.

About me and spoilers: This thread is somewhat complex, and irked me in a variety of ways. The thread started as a pretty minor question:
Quote:

While the question in itself is trivial ("How can I save a few paltry gold pieces?"), and new to BG ][ included a hefty spoiler space in his post, the way in which the request was phrased just rubbed me the wrong way ("Instead of thinking about possible clues I may have encountered in the past, or even just using trial and error, I thought I'd come here and ask you guys to do everything for me").
(Again, you'll notice that I'm still being colorful. I'm sorry, but I can't help it, I grew up in a home full of smartasses.)

Also, the thread's original question touches on a whole bunch of MAJOR plot points, that new to BG ][ possibly had no idea about and thus can't be blamed for. The fault, if any, must be laid at the feet of those who gave information that was not asked for, which is at the core of every unwanted spoiler. That information (in this thread) included
 • hints as to how the quest would be more rewarding to Evil characters
 • Silver Dragons, and
 • Ust Natha.
A trivial amount of 'spoiler blame' can be pointed at new to BG ][ for not realizing that if he didn't know what/where/who Adalon and Ust Natha are/were, that's probably because he hadn't played the game enough to know yet--and that in asking about them, he'd be almost certain to cause yet more spoilers, even though this was probably not his intention.

About me and royalty: Other names not named by Pirengle include Alson, Jim, weimer, Jcompton, and Butterfingers. Not that they're all broken up about not having been mentioned, of course. (And Dundee Slaytern? Who's that? Oh--wasn't he the guy who never scored higher than "Yaga-Shura" on Six's Quizzes? )

About me and new to BG ][: No, I don't have a bone to pick with you, I just have a bone to pick with spoilers, whether intentional or not.
[Soapbox]My crusade was sparked years ago, when I had just started playing BG1. I was noodling around on a website, looking for harmless stuff like info on the various classes' Saving Throws, when suddenly I came upon an unmarked spoiler detailing the *precise* location of the best damn Helmet in the entire BG series. This was, of course, before I had EVER found that Helmet for myself, and considering that the Helmet was supposed to be the end result of a well-written quest that was challenging both in figuring things out and defeating enemies, you can see what a whole lot of satisfaction that just that one little spoiler robbed me of. And once spoiled, the damage is done--you can't go back and just *forget* what you've read. This is why I'm asking you to be cautious when requesting spoiler information: You might just rob yourself of X part of the fun of the game, to the benefit of nobody at all. [/Soapbox]
Remember, all, that interesting quests and puzzles are what raise the BG series above the level of, say, Diablo, or a first-person-shooter. Let's keep it that way.

All in all, this thread has been a showcase of people (including myself) saying too much, saying the wrong thing(s), and interpreting things other than they were intended. Three cheers for the success of the global village that is the Internet, and I suggest we just forget the whole damn thing and get some sleep.
