oh and i prefer bg over diabloII its more involving , diabloII is great till you realise nightmare and hell is just more of the same and hell is plain boring with no real new challenges just people you got to hit longer and who hurt you more, shame as it had so much potential to be better

My two cents worth. Comparing Baldurs Gate to Diablo is like comparing apples and oranges. The combat systems are completely different and a 50th level character in one does not = a 50th level in the other. During my lunch break, two guys play Diablo over the net, and I play Baldurs Gate. There is NO role playing in their game, and the net is filled with trolls, that only want to get stronger and stronger. These trolls steal gold and items from other players. Really stupid.

And you cant do *anything* while timestopped leaving any decent mage 18 seconds to arrange your total destruction.

6 seconds for alacrity, 12 seconds for several *thousand* HPs of damage.

Unless of course you can close 30 yards (or whatever distance you start the battle at) leap and hit an invisible target inside of 6 seconds. I doubt it.

But there are SO many people out there that say that Diablo is an RPG!!! How can they all be wrong? (Sarcasm intended...)

Pfft, all we need is the Staff of Magi.

"*Ow!* What hit me? *Ow!* Cut that out! *Ow!* *Ow!*"

Invisibility, something that Diablo2 characters cannot counter. Not to mention it allows the wielder to cast Time Stop unseen.

no magic can affect a leaping barbarian so the ONLY way to tackle it (and yes i can leap a full screen with my barbarian so if your on screen i can hit you) is by timing it perfectly so that when i hit the ground the spell hits me, which is very hard to do using bg system, and if its the case whereby your immune to magic weapons then no problem i switch to fists and still do 200 odd damage

and of course you cant compare the two games, but its half the fun to see, ie would rambo kick terminators arse, would aliens beat the predator type questions, just if you integrated a barbarians leap attack into bg then it would not be targetable (by the rules of bg) till you touched the ground again by which time you'd be dead even if you converted the guy down to bg standards you'd have problems casting when your being hit repeatdly.

and diablo is a semi-rpg at best, its good fun and there is a plot to follow with quests so in that respect fills some, but baldurs gate by the same token is only a semi-rpg as you have no real option to change the course of things, theres no way of failing the main quest short of dying, the end result of bg is to complete the game so its not openended and therefore not a full rpg where you have the control (like morrowind which is about as close as most games come to open ended play) but diabloII is designed for hack and slash and dont think about anything which is great fun too cept gets boring quickly after completing nightmare, whereas bg you can come back to over and over, and yes even the multiplayer of diablo gets boring quickly and does little (for me) to extend the life of the game, the one thing in diablo i loved was random items, trying to build up the best set of equipment i could find, and thats the main reason most people play it, esp online.

but pls remember this aint a serious topic! its only games

I don't know about you, but I prefer staying visible--it's a much more powerful emotional defeat if you can SEE them right in front of you, but you can't do a dang thing about it.

What about the laws of physics? I should think Time stop pretty much sums everything up, magic immunity during Leap or no magic immunity during Leap.

Not through Stoneskins, you don't. And no matter how many attacks per 'round' you're dealing, a Wizard will still have plenty of time to cast.....oh, how about Feeblemind?

*HEAR, HEAR!!!* That's where the Diablo series stomps the BG series into the dust: Randomness. Random dungeons, random monsters, random boss monsters, random unique items, even more random non-unique items.....I hate entering the Nashkel Mines for the nth time and knowing exactly where all the Traps are.

unfortunately thats the only thing diablo has over bg and maybe by bg rules timestop would work but in diablo nothing in the game affects a leaping barbarian, magic cast by the greatest demons etc nothing can hit em even auras which would work along the same lines as a timestop spell, even things affecting the whole screen dont affect them (least till they land)

i want random items in bg darnit! that would be cool, could find some nice drops and then it wouldnt always be the same old stuff that my party ends up having

Personal preference. Please don't flame me!
I don't consider the "replayability" of a game as part of the role playing. I look at the choices that have to be made, and how these affect the plot and your character. Interaction with NPC's, going to town, negotiating, etc, etc.
Restrictions on your choices are always a drag in these computer games. For example, many of the Civil War games tout "refight the Battle of 2nd Bull Run, see if you can beat Lee". Well they set parameters that don't allow you to change the campaign. What if I don't want to place the army in this field? What if I want to place them on that hill? The game won't let you do that, which restricts your role playing.
