IIRC, BGT combines all of those 4 separate things. You still need to have all of them. But I wouldn't know for sure.

I think that the difficulty of a game is always a direct reflection on the playing style of the individual. For one thing, on Standard 2nd Ed. difficulty, with a full party of six characters, for example a PC who is a fighter mage, Minsc, Aerie, Jaheira, Yoshimo and Keldorn, the game quickly becomes rediculously easy. Three tanks, three spellcasters and a theif, and there's almost nothing you can't kill, bash, blowup, backstab or set fire to. Child's play.

However, there's also various options, like reducing the number of party members, or attempting to role play and get to ****SPOILER****

Imoen as Rapidly as possible, without completing every side quest, and without buying or picking up every powerful item in the game. Also, you can turn the difficulty up.

At the moment I'm playing an evil party, with only the PC (a theif), Korgan, Edwin and Vicona. I'm attempting to do only what is necessary to get to 'That unfriendly mage fellow'. I don't buy armor, weapons or anything else unless it's absolutely imperitive, and I rely mainly on those things that I find along my way to Irenicus.

I don't think eigher BG1 or BG2 is "better". They both have their goods and their bads and I have spend too much time tring to figure out which is better only to determine that that is a question that has no answer. They are both better for different reasons.

Also I am thinking of tring BGT and was wondering if it is really buggy and would it work with other mods (Valen and Solaufein).

ok it is good. you can get it if you have mIRC, just go to server teambg and channel #bgt.

If not you can get it from many different FTPs. Just go to http://www.google.com and search for BGT and FTP or something or download mIRC. and you are right it combines all four!

A thought... in BG1, there were several 'main' quests you had to complete in order to advance the story (Nashkel Mines, etc), and everything else was a little teensy quest (go to a place, fight something, come back). In BG2, everything's a reasonably large quest, just like a D&D module! I like that in-depthness of BG2.

True, but keep in mind that inbetween these quests, BG1 has much more 'freedom' than BG2 does. Regardless, I think both of them are some of the greatest games ever created, and I'm dissapointed to see a BG3 isn't coming out.

Freedom? What do I need freedom for? My character is a tool of fate, his destiny is sealed... no room for freedom in his life.

But after-patched, BGI is still very buggy. Who plays a game non-patched? That's someone who does not have internet or likes bugs...

What I like about BG2 is that you're not just roaming around (like you were often in BG1) but have a reason to go to the areas you visit.
Before you know where Trademeet is you can't go there but once you need to it will be on your map. Many BG1 areas were like the three additional areas you get after exiting the Underdark, pointless with only some random encounters and one tiny mini-quest (Coran, Safana).
I don't like that. I like to know where I go and WHY.
