Respect!!! Lets talk about respect.

Tell me honstly, how many times have your heard ANYTHING-American beside African-American.

I have heard Irish-Americans (Said by Irish-Americans, may I state) maybe once or twice.

How is saying one person heritage, and not another ethnics groups being respectfull?

I dont see it in anyway being respectfull. Now lets focus on you, how many times have YOU used any term beside African-American, just saying it to be respectfull?

I am pretty sure you have never used the term Eouprean-Americans, to refer to white people.

And as for being "easyer" its that, and its...being fair. Witch I explained in my first post.

Who cares? I sure dont care that another person from another country, who has more then likley never even been here before, thinks we are all stupid, psycho murderous, dumb idiots.

The point is that African Americans wish to be known as African Americans. It is irrelevant whether or not other groups wish to be known as Irish Americans, or Chinese Americans etc. It is not up to you what they are known as. Just as you don't wish to be called white trash and so if I were to call you that I would be disrespecting you, if a certain group wish to be referred to as a specific name, then if we refer to them as something else then we are disrespecting their wishes. What is fair is that we respect people, not whether a certain group's name is longer or less easy for you to use. Especially minority groups that have previously been treated with massive disrespect by the majority.

The U.S. is one of the most powerful nations on Earth. This means that everyone pays attention to what goes on in there. This information is passed to the rest of the world through the media. The media completely fixates on bad news (that's their nature) and so everyone else receives a distorted version of what's going on in the U.S., tilted toward violence and mayhem. This goes on day-in day-out, year-in year-out. This is why some people think that 'Americans are all stupid, psycho murderous, dumb idiots'.

The good news is that most people with more than half a brain realise this and so try to fight the impression given by the media.

Of the few Americans I've met, I've found them to be courteous and a good laugh.

Dagorion, the quote is "i have a dream where my children can live in a nation where they are not judged by the colour of their skin, but by the contents of their heart" Martin Luther King.

Well, frankly, to me it doesn't matter whether you call someone 'black' or 'white' unless it is in a derogatory fashion.
I agree with the person who said, we're all one race, just with some unimportant different physical characteristics.
I mean, a black person is only 'black' because of the increased melanin in their skin, if everyone lived in very hot countries, I expect everyone would be 'black'.
So really, colour is only to do with a position on the earth, big deal, if anyone is a fascist, then they can get angry at evolution for certain people losing unnecessary melanin in their skin, not people with a differetn skin colour.
(Please feel free to ignore that last statement if you don't believe in evolution.)
Another thing, this political corectness can get very annoying, if some insist it is politically correct to call african-americans then maybe I should insist on being called caucasian.
Also, to those who keep saying someone is black is just labelling them by their skin colour, then calling them afro-american is labelling them not as a person but by their origin, so if we were to be politically correct we'd have to go around describing everyone just as 'a person.'
Plus, it is just one way of describing someone, I'm sure I wouldn't get offended if I was in a large group of people, all black except me and someone said 'Oh, I think I recognise that white one,' just as I don't get offended when people call me tall.
They're merely true statements.

EDIT: BTW, before Aelia gets angry at me, I do agree it's wrong to do that if the colour of the skin is the ONLY thing you consider about a person.
